World Population Day: Meet These Populous Parivars From Indian TV Shows!

On the occasion of World population day, here is the list of Indian Television shows which introduced viewers to large and extended families on-screen…

Joint Families

World population day observed on 11th July every year, focuses on bringing a stable and healthy population. The aim is to spread awareness about population related issues in a country. Today, the population has become a major issue in many countries around the world.

Global population is close to cross the mark of 7.7 billion while India being the second largest populated country in the world, is touted to surpass China in taking the first position by 2100, according to data provided by the Pew Research Center.

While population forms the backbone of any economy, over-population hampers the growth and development of a country as well as it citizens.

Both low population and overpopulation is a matter of concern.

On World population day, we are taking a walk down the memory lane when Indian Television shows introduced audience to large families. Unlike the present times, shows of yesteryear promoted the concept of joint families, which has its own set of advantages and disadvantages.

Have a look at the shows :

Remember the famous Virani family? The family was no less than a mini village with assortment of characters. The show started off with three generations in the main plot and went on to take two generation leaps of 20 years in its run. Balaji Telefilms’ gave Indian families the image of an ideal bahu with Tulsi (Smriti Irani), who would go to any extent to protect her family and keep them tightly knit.

2. Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii
