The poster for filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri's upcoming film 'The Kashmir Files' was shown at the Times Square skyscraper in New York City on India's 73rd Republic Day. The film is based on documented footage and video interviews with first-generation survivors of the Kashmiri Pandit community's genocide, which resulted in the community's mass departure from the state.
Vivek Agnihotri is receiving threats to prevent the film from being released in India, according to a popular news outlet. The report states,
"The Kashmir Files, directed by Vivek Agnihotri, has been screened more than 30 times in the United States. The film will be released in Indian theatres in one month. Vivek Agnihotri had received threats to stop the screening in the United States, but he ignored them. However, the number of threat calls and texts has suddenly surged, with many of the calls threatening to kill him if the film was released in India."
Vivek had previously told ETimes about his project.
"The viewers should not anticipate anything from the movie because what do you demand from the truth? The film is based on true events, with every word and story being true. People may believe that the film is about communal issues, or that it is criticizing certain communities, or that it is about jingoism.”
'The Kashmir Files' is written and directed by Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri, who has earlier helmed 'The Tashkent Files'.The film is based on video interviews of the first-generation victims of the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus.
The exodus drama features Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumaar, Pallavi Joshi, and Chinmay Mandlekar.
