On Saturday, 21-year-old Vishal Sonkar took home the trophy of Colors’ Dance Deewane 2 and a prize money of fifteen lakhs. Salman Khan, who was at the finale for introducing the Bigg Boss house announced the winner’s name. Priyanka Chopra-Jonas was also present at the show for the promotions of her upcoming film The Sky is Pink.

The dancer who hails from Jamshedpur has an inspiring journey, from working in Zomato as a delivery boy to winning India’s one of the biggest dance reality shows. Vishal got candid about his journey and experiences on the show in an exclusive interview with India Forums.

How does it feel after winning Dance Deewane 2?

What should I say? I was shocked, it still feels like a dream but anyway it has been achieved now. It feels really good.

How would you describe your journey from being a food delivery boy to winning such a big reality show?

Yes, I have worked as a delivery boy. I didn't get the time for dancing but I somehow managed to spare some time from my hectic schedule. I used to wake up early in the morning at around 4 a.m and start practising or else go to some park for the rehearsals till 9 am.

I used to watch on Youtube and learn, be it about the warm-ups or anything related to dance. After 9.30 I used to come home, finish my breakfast and then go to work. During breaks, I used to practice for half an hour at any park near the hotel and then again at night.

I gave the auditions for season one also but I was rejected. This time I came to know that the auditions for the second season are happening in Ranchi. I gave the auditions and passed two rounds and was shortlisted for Kolkata. I got selected in Kolkata but I had no money for tickets to reach Mumbai. I somehow travelled in the general compartment from Jamshedpur to Mumbai. I met some choreographers here, who trained novice dancers and I want to thank them all for teaching me.

What inspired you to become a dancer and participate in the reality show?

Firstly, I have watched Dharmesh (Yelande) sir dancing on flute. Second is Bboy Hoshi, I started doing flips after watching him. Otherwise, I follow Dharmesh sir and I got the opportunity to dance with him during the show, which was the best moment.

What were the challenges that you came across during the show?

The challenge throughout the show was dancing with girls, I used to feel shy while dancing with them.

What message would you like to give to all the aspiring dancers?

About the auditions, I just want them to happen in small towns like Jamshedpur too. And for dancers like me, keep working hard, if I can achieve this then you too can get it.

Congratulations!
