Veteran actor Bharat Kapoor passed away on Monday, April 27, at the age of 80. He reportedly died due to multiple organ failure at a hospital in Mumbai, marking the end of a long career in Hindi cinema that spanned several decades.

According to reports, Kapoor had not been keeping well for the past few days. He was initially at home before being admitted to hospital. Actor Avtar Gill confirmed the news and shared details about his final days and funeral arrangements.

Speaking about the development, Gill said, “I have just come from the cremation ground. When his son called me, he shared that Bharat was not keeping well for the past three days. He was at home only. Before that he was in the hospital.” He also added, “Very few people, including close relatives and members from our theater group IPTA, attended the funeral. Rakesh Bedi, director Ramesh Kumar, actor Kuldeep Singh, and a few other people from our theater group were there. His prayer meet is on April 30 from 5 to 7 pm at his house.”

An official statement from Kapoor’s family is still awaited.

Over the years, Bharat Kapoor built a reputation as a dependable character actor. He was often cast in supporting roles, frequently portraying villains or authority figures such as police officers, lawyers and administrators. Though rarely seen in lead roles, his presence added weight to several mainstream films.

His filmography includes notable titles such as Noorie, Ram Balram, Love Story, Bazaar, Ghulami, Aakhree Raasta, Satyamev Jayate, Swarg, Khuda Gawah and Rang.

Kapoor continued to work in later years as well, appearing in films like Barsaat, Saajan Chale Sasural and Meenaxi A Tale of Three Cities, reflecting his longevity in the industry.

As news of his passing spread, members of the film fraternity and fans have begun remembering his contribution to Indian cinema and his consistent presence across generations of films.
