Bollywood's one of the most celebrated award shows, the Filmfare are held every year to honour the extraordinary performances in Bollywood by actors, directors, lyricists, musicians and technicians. But, it seems the awards fraternity failed in living up to its words this time and got bashed by the netizens who started trending #Boycottfilmfare on Twitter.
For the unversed, this year it was the 65th year of the Filmfare Awards and they were held in Guwahati on February 15, 2020. Sweeping 13 awards at a stretch was Zoya Akhtar's film, Gully Boy starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt in lead roles. On the other hand, Chunky Panday's daughter, Ananya Panday who made her debut with Karan Johar's Student of the Year 2 was honoured with the Best Debut Actress trophy.
These unfair distribution of awards and the winners list didn't go down well with the netizens who slammed the Filmfare organizers for being biased and started trending 'Boycott Filmfare' and 'Boycott Filmfare Awards' on Twitter.
Soon after the Awards ceremony was over, #BoycottFilmfare has been trending on number one position and angry Twitteratis and fans have been furiously tweeting hate comments about Filmfare calling their awards, 'paid'.
As per Twitteratis, Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy that showcased the life of a Mumbai based struggling rapper was good but did not deserve 13 awards and
Gully Boy won Best Film, Best Director for Zoya Akhtar, Best Actor In A Leading Role (Male) for Ranveer Singh, Best Actor In A Leading Role (Female) for Alia Bhatt, Best Actor In A Supporting Role (Female) for Amruta Subhash, Best Actor In A Supporting Role (Male) for Siddhant Chaturvedi, Best Music Album, Best Lyrics, Best Screenplay and Best Dialogue.
Along with Gully Boy, what irritated the netizens more was Ananya Panday receiving the Best Debut Actress award for Student Of The Year 2 and Pati Patni Aur Woh and Akshay Kumar's Kesari and Hrithik Roshan's Super 30 not winning a single trophy was also a matter of concern for netizens.
Several others also said that Teri Mitti from Kesari deserved to win the Best Lyrics award as opposed to Apna Time Aayega from Gully Boy. Manoj Muntashir, who wrote the lyrics of Teri Mitti, was upset as his song did not win the Best Lyrics award and said that he will not attend award shows henceforth.
