From the makers of Special 26 (2013) and Baby (2015) comes a new movie on 31st of March, Naam Shabana. Produced by Neeraj Pandey and Shital Bhatia under the Friday Filmworks banner and directed by Shivam Nair, this action spy thriller has Taapsee Pannu in the titular role. The film is a prequel of Baby and follows the path of the character Shabana till she becomes a part of the team that features in Baby. Manoj Bajpayee, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Virendra Saxena, and Taher Shabbir form the supporting cast.

The trailer opens with a voiceover by Manoj Bajpayee and gives us a few glimpses of Shabana's life as a civilian. The trailer soon takes a dark turn as Shabana faces a shocking incident that seems to have turned her life around - this is how a civilian becomes an undercover agent. Soon she is seen training and starting her mission. What is her mission and how does it lead to her being a part of the BABY team forms the crux of the story.

One glimpse of the trailer and we can easily come to the conclusion that the dialogues are tight and to the point. The acting is suitably subtle, matching the tone perfectly. Every frame seems to be gripped by an action sequence with most of it being performed by Pannu herself. The actress seems to have understood the technicalities of fighting and appears effortless with the sophisticated moves. Pannu has especially trained in mixed martial arts and Kudo along with Krav Maga for the movie and the results are clearly visible in the trailer.

Based on what we heard in the trailer, the music complements the movie well. It's obvious that the songs will not be the focus of the film and it actually makes for a refereshing change. However, it is safe to say the background music will support the film, carrying the movie to renewed dimensions.

Predominately shot in Mumbai and Malaysia, the cinematography is clean and slick, matching the genre of the movie.

Overall, Naam Shabana has shown enough for us to be intrigued. The movie is another feather in the quickly expanding hat of powerful female oriented roles and coming from the powerhouse behind Baby, we can anticipate this film will be as well received. While we eagerly await its release on the 31st of March, check out the trailer and let us know your thoughts.
