There was no looking back after 'Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi': Mona Jaswir Singh

Popular and talented actress, Mona Jaswir Singh has come a long way from her debut show,'Jassi Jaisi koi Nahi'. In her journey of 10 years in the industry, Mona has proved her mark with every show that she has been associated with, and is now back on-screen with Balaji Telefilms' newly launched show 'Pyar Ko Ho Jane Do'.

What's your take on your character - Preet?

Preet is the soul of the family. She takes care of everyone in the family and loves her husband a lot. She is a modern age bahu. She could have been a working lady, but chose to be a housewife. She is well educated, and well-raised resident of Delhi. She loves her family a lot and also teaches them how to love back.

What are the different shades of Preet, that the viewers will get to see on the show?

Right now, she is on one track and that is- she loves her family and her husband and she is there for everyone. She is the soul of the house; her bade papa loves and respects her too much. He also trusts her a lot. Her brother in law also confides in her for everything. She is like a strong tree standing there for the family.

However, she is unaware about Ishaan's truth as of now, but her further journey would take a 360 degree turn after the big revelation and it would be interesting for the viewers to watch.. whom does she chooses to support? .. her husband or the nation.

How do you see your journey?

I feel very lucky because I am in that position today, where I can accept or deny a project on my will. I do less shows and select the ones, which I enjoy doing and feel people will enjoy watching. It's my fourth TV show and I have completed 10 years in the industry. I am happy, that I am getting to do different things and my journey has been amazing. I always wanted to be an actor but I was not trained. I did 'Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin' and had absolutely no idea as how the show will go, will it be a hit or flop; but people liked it very much and I never looked back after that. I kept getting shows after that.. from hosting to acting. Since my childhood, I always wanted to see myself on hoardings! I wanted people to click pictures with me and take my autographs and I am living my dream.

What have you been busy doing post 'Kya Huaa Tera Vaada'?

I took up a season Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega after the show wrapped up and it was a lot of fun. After that I promised myself to pick up a hobby. I went for Bungee Jumping, I learned Scuba Diving and then I thought of travelling alone. I went to Europe alone where I stayed in hostels, I learned guitar and I started reading books and then I did a play - Unfaithfully Yours. Then Ekta (Ekta Kapoor) called me for this show and I took it up.

No its not! Preet has her own journey. Preet has a very dark past which will be revealed on the show. 

What's your take on the concept of the show?

In today's time there are so much of responsibilities that the couples loose that bond between each other and then it becomes a habit. You stop doing special things like you earlier used to do. This show will also teach you how to find love again after marriage which is going to be so inspiring for the couples to watch. I think everybody should bring back that magic of romance in their life because no matter how successful you are, if you don't have that loving partner in your life, you will always feel lonely. The show is about how you discover love and I love the concept.

How is your equation with Iqbal Khan?

Its brilliant and I find a great friend in him. I told Ekta that it's very important to have a co-star who is fun, great to be with and with whom you don't feel the stress of working and Iqbal is just like that. We crack jokes, eat food together and thinking process is just the same. He is a very funny guy and he understands Punjabi more than I do so there are a lot of Punjabi jokes we keep cracking with each other.

What are your views about Social Media?

I am doing the show when Social media is at its peak. There are so many fan clubs. People have already named our characters like Ishpreet, Isheet and they have their own likes and dislikes. But as an actor, you should not take the bad comments personally. Internet is growing and people are evolving. I am a closed person. I am not active on Twitter because people give it back and I can't take it. I am very active on Facebook and Instagram.  

Do negative comments affect you?

Not anymore! I have learnt not to take them personally and I have learnt that people have their own opinion and I should respect that. Earlier I used to feel bad about it but now I understand that it's not me and it's the character that they are talking about. So, you have to create that difference.

What are your long term goals?

Keep changing as a person, keep evolving with time, do not get stuck and believe in spreading a lot of joy and happiness around.
