Although the trailer of the film received criticism for claiming that 32,000 girls from Kerala joined the terrorist group ISIS, the team withdrew the figure. The Kerala High Court refused to issue a stay order on the film's release after examining it and finding it suitable for public exhibition.
Sudipto Sen's latest film has garnered a massive ₹35.25 crore in just three days since its release on May 5. The film experienced a growth of 42.60% on its third day, making it a smash hit. However, several theatres in Tamil Nadu have decided to withdraw the film from screening since it did not do well in the few multiplexes that showed it, and it did not feature popular stars.
Despite this, film analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter on Monday to share a poster of the film, claiming that it is unstoppable and unshakable. The Kerala Story has stood against two mighty opponents: the Hollywood film GotGVol3 and IPL2023. The film earned ₹8.03 crore on its first day, ₹11.22 crore on its second day, and ₹16 crore on its third day.
The Kerala Story's massive success is unsurprising given the impressive cast and crew. However, the controversy surrounding the film's trailer may have impacted its reception in some areas. Nonetheless, its box office success has proved that audiences are still drawn to high-quality storytelling and excellent filmmaking.
