Kushal Punjabi who was last seen in Bindass' Zindagi Wins will now be seen in digital series #Lovebytes by Sony LIV. Let's take a look at what the actor has to say about being a part of a web show and his career plans concerning acting.
Please tell us about your role in this show.
I play Abhishek, a 28 year-old copywriter in a media firm. A party animal, he is best described as driven, ambitious and affable all at once. The series will underline what makes these two very different individuals click and sometimes clash and elucidates all those things that are necessary for an urban Indian relationship to sustain itself.
Kushal, you were last seen in Zindagi Wins. What were you doing all this while?
Post Zindagi Wins, I shot for an episodic of Savdhaan India (Life OK) and also did an Indo-French movie. After this I have been on a sabbatical getting the better of life. I have an inclination towards computers and I am learning how to work on different software programs.
Why did you choose to be a part of a digital web show?
#Lovebytes was very random. I wanted to do something different and this project came my way. When I heard the concept, I was very kicked about being a part of something innovative and experimental.
I am online most of the time and I feel the digital medium is growing very fast. This would be a good platform to showcase my work as an artist. Additionally, the content which goes on television is very limited as there are restrictions because it caters to the family viewing audience. Urban issues which thrive in today's world cannot be broadcast as it will not be appreciated or accepted.
You have mainly been a part of youth based shows. Why so?
I believe the youth is impressionable. Jhalak Dikhhlaa Jaa season 7 was also youth centric and challenging. I do not want to do fiction shows where the changes in the society are highlighted in a regressive way. Our society believes in arranged marriages and they have recently started accepting love marriages too. I do not think 'live-in' will ever go down well with the older generation.
Through #Lovebytes, we will empower the youngsters to learn what goes into a relationship when they get into one.
A lot of web series have come up but no series in particular got the kind of exposure they expected. What do you think about the response #Lovebytes will generate?
Unlike the other web series, we plan to market #Lovebytes just like a television show. There is a 360 degree marketing campaign being planned and it will be nothing less than a real television show. So all I can say for now is that this is an experiment and we are hopeful the series will generate a good response.
