'The Big Bang Theory' Gets Mentioned at the Nobel Prize Ceremony

Talk about fiction coming to life, of sorts.

It is not often that we come across instances of a TV show getting importance as much in real life in a way that it gets mentioned on the biggest stage there possibly can be. I mean, I don't think the makers of The Big Bang Theory would have ever thought that the lines and thoughts the character of Sheldon (Jim Parsons) had in the show about winning the Nobel Prize and being at the ceremony would actually come to fruition in real life in some way.

Well, that actually happened at the recently held Nobel Prize announcement. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Our whole universe was in a hot, dense state, then nearly 14 billion years ago expansion started," academy member Ulf Danielsson said, quoting The Big Bang theme at the presentation in Stockholm.

A Canadian-American scientist and two Swiss scientists won the physics prize for their work in understanding how the universe has evolved from the Big Bang and the blockbuster discovery of a planet outside our solar system.

Goran Hansson, secretary-general of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, said the TV show was a "fantastic achievement" that brought the "world of science to laptops and living rooms around the world." Referencing its theme song, therefore, seemed fitting, he said.

This is in tandem with the plot of the series finale that aired only recently, where the characters of Sheldon and Amy (Mayim Bialik) get a call about how they have won the Nobel Prize in Physics after getting several prank calls initially. Hansson said he hoped fans of the show liked how this year's Nobel Prizes are handled.

"I hope that Sheldon and Amy are not too disappointed today," he said.

Oh, I am sure they will be!
