Taylor Swift's Ex Matty Healy drops hint That 'Guilty As Sin' might be about him

Although Taylor Swift and Matty Healy’s brief romance is now a year in the past, new revelations about their relationship continue to surface. While Matty has largely remained silent on their breakup, a recent cryptic Instagram post has led fans to believe that it may contain a subtle reference to one of Taylor’s songs.

The lyrics of Taylor Swift’s song Guilty As Sin begin with the lines, “Drowning in the Blue Nile / He sent me ‘Downtown Lights’ / I hadn’t heard it in a while.” Matty, frontman of The 1975, took to his Instagram Stories to share a cover of The Downtown Lights by 80s band The Blue Nile, writing, “If you don’t know this cover, you are welcome.” This post quickly caught the attention of Swifties, who saw it as a direct allusion to the song lyric, sparking speculation that Guilty As Sin might have been inspired by his brief relationship with Taylor.

This isn’t the first time Matty Healy has been linked to Taylor Swift’s songwriting. After Taylor released her album The Tortured Poets Department, many fans speculated that the tracks The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived and The Tortured Poets Department could also be about Matty, further fuelling the rumours surrounding their short-lived romance.

While neither Taylor nor Matty ever confirmed their relationship publicly, they were widely believed to have been an item for a brief period. Their romance, rumoured to have lasted just a month, included several studio appearances together and public outings, with Matty even spotted at multiple stops on Swift’s tour.

As for Taylor, she is currently in a relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce and is preparing to wrap up her Eras Tour with the final three shows taking place in Vancouver from December 6–8.
