Actor Swati Rajput has been through quite a journey one can say as inspite of being on the tube for almost a decade, it is only now that she plays the leading face of a leading show on a leading channel. She stars in Yeh Jhuki Jhuki Si Nazar, a show that deals with color discrimination and that is what Rajput faced as well in her real life as well.

Talking about it with ETimes TV, Rajput said, “It's sad but even today skin colour becomes an issue. Casting directors have told me on my face that I will never get good roles because of my complexion. I was told that there is a demand for fair girls and I would request them to at least audition me. This was in the beginning of 2019."

She added, “I was also told that I am not a TV lead face because lead actresses look a certain way. I am tall too as compared to other actresses, so that became an issue too at some places."

She was disillusioned and after 4 years, decided to give up on television. Her last proper television show was in 2015 Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? Ek Baar Phir. But soon things started changing and today she is glad to have bagged this role. “Now everyday I wake up happy. I know that I will go to work and do something that I like doing. I look forward to my day.”

While now making it on the TV space, Rajput has been a constant in the ad world and starred in over 300 plus commercials.

Sad that the Indian television industry is so obsessed with casting thin, fair girls. This woman is probably fairer than a huge percentage of Indians. Entertainment industry doesn't represent an average Indian woman.
