Susindran hopes to strike gold with 'Kabbaddi' film

Chennai, Aug 31 (IANS) Tamil director Susindran is confident that his thriller 'Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu', based on the offbeat rural sport kabbaddi, will spin gold at the box office.

Chennai, Aug 31 (IANS) Tamil director Susindran is confident that his thriller 'Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu', based on the offbeat rural sport kabbaddi, will spin gold at the box office.

'Since the recent off beat Tamil film based on gully cricket 'Chennai 28', which was made without any big stars, was a big hit, our movie too will bag the next gold medal endorsement from the box office,' Susindran told IANS.

For Susindran it is a labour of love.

'I grew up in rural Tamil Nadu seeing my father play the game like a champion and always wanted to create a film on the subject,' Susindran said.

'Though the sport has been given a step motherly treatment by the Indian masses, and never reached the Olympics, US returned producer Anand Chakravarthy has spent lavishly on the film,' he added.

Lakshman Kumar, a former assistant to cinematographer-director Rajiv Menon, is making his debut as a cinematographer with the movie.

'Along with Kumar, its male lead Vishnu, a former cricketer, and music director Selva Ganesh too are making a bow in filmdom,' said a publicist.

Ganesh, a name to reckon with in the field of east-west fusion music, is the son of well-known south Indian classical music percussionist Thetakudi Harihara Vinayakram, also known as Vikku Vinayakram.

The movie is scheduled for a Diwali release.
