Sushant Divgikar, the flag bearer of LGBTQIA in India, is all geared up to showcase his drag queen avatar in a singing reality show, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. He has been a host for many a television shows in the past but this time he is a participant and he is not shying away from bringing out his drag Rani KoHE-Nur. Interestingly, a day before the first day of shoot, Rani turned one, so Sushant gave her the gift of acceptance and performed in that avatar.
In a recent interview to Bombay Times, Sushant has given a seak peek into his idea of bringing out his drag avatar on a music show. Sushant's singing is admired by many but this time he has a plan to win the trophy. He says that he is an ardent admirer of music and has been singing since his childhood. He has grown up watching shows like Sa Ra Ga Ma Pa and now that he has an opportunity to participate in the show, he wants to bring out his real self.
Sushant feels that it's the right time to do this as the Supreme court has given it's landmark judgement in by eradicating Section 377. He says that in the history of Indian television, there has never been a drag queen. He, however, wants to be the first one and aspires to bring out Rani Ko-He Nur in front of the people.
He very unapologetically admits that he is there in the show for applause. He wants to win the hearts of the audience with his singing. Given his struggle with the acceptance of his sexuality, he wants people to admire what his true self is. He says that people comment on how he walks, talks, but then when he hits the right notes, their jaws drop to the ground. And he is there for the same.
When asked if he wants to keep the avatar of Rani, all throughout the show, Shushant said that he will switch if Rani gets tired. As he will be singing in the voices of both male and female, it would be a unique experience for the audience too. Talking about Rani, he says that she is a complete package. she is visually appealing, magnanimous in her appearance and a good singer too.
