Supriya Pathak Recalls Being in Dilemma to Play Hansa in Khichdi; Reveals Was Offered to Choose between Hansa and Jayshree!

Even in the on-going nationwide lockdown, the channels are doing their bit by bringing the old shows back to the Television screen. With the popular show Khichdi being back on TV once again, Actress Supriya Pathak who portrayed the character of Hansa revealed that she was in Dilemma to play that role. Supriya recalled that when she was asked to choose between Hansa and Jayshree, she was in two minds. 

In a conversation with Pinkvilla, Supirya shared, “When JD Majethia and Aatish had come to me, they have asked me which character I would like to do between Jayshree or Hansa. And very honestly, I was in a double mind because on television I realised that the character which speaks is the character which is given screen time, rest don't really get too much space. But, I, as a person, as an actor, liked Hansa more as I could do something more with it rather than Jayshree which I thought was something more straight for me to perform."

She also mentioned that when she asked Pankaj Kapur about the same, he told her to go with her gut. She added, “Hansa was a character which I hadn't played before and I would love to do something like that. But there was this question of how much time I would be given, how much as a character will I be allowed to do. So, I asked Pankaj (Kapoor) obviously, whenever I have a problem, my teacher, my mentor, my friend is him. So I asked him and he told me to go with my gut, 'go with the feeling you are having'. I spoke to Aatish shortly, and he explained to me how he is looking forward to this show and character, and I decided on Hansa.”

Talking about Hansa, Supriya shared that when she started working on the character, she picked up two or three important points. The first one was her childlike belief in the good or bad and the second was the interest she had. 

She shared, “If someone tells Hansa, this is good or bad, she will believe it. She won't question it because Hansa never has any direct opinion about anything except her gajra, her jewellery. That is her area of knowledge, rest she is unaware of, and she is not embarrassed about it. Her interest in jewellery, makeup or looking good is truth for her, she is not doing it to impress anyone.”
