Priya avoids camera as she gets spotted

Priya Sachdev Kapur has initiated a defamation suit at Patiala Court against Mandhira Kapur Smith, claiming significant damage to her reputation. On Wednesday, the case was privately heard by the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate at the Patiala House Court, where Priya was present to give her statement.

Videos of Priya entering and exiting the court have emerged on social media. In these clips, she is seen attempting to conceal her face as she enters to record her statement.

Another video shows Priya outside the court, avoiding questions from photographers and the media about the allegations made against her by Sunjay Kapur's family. She chose not to respond, wearing sunglasses as she moved through the area.

In a particular clip, Priya's lawyer is shown stepping in to protect her from the media, speaking to them on her behalf while Priya remained quietly behind him.

What exactly the advocate said

After Priya Kapur's husband's death, an accused person in this case made multiple allegations which are completely false, defamatory, derogatory and concocted. Still, Priya kept herself composed and tolerated these accusations. When a podcast was released, Priya Kapur finally decided to come back and fight for it. She has filed a criminal defamation case today, senior advocate Maninder Singh said.

Sunjay Kapur’s sister issued a legal notice

On Wednesday, the Patiala Court in Delhi issued a notice to Mandhira Kapur Smith, following a defamation suit filed by her sister-in-law, Priya. This action comes shortly after Priya filed the case, citing "serious reputational harm." The case is scheduled for appearance on March 12, with Mandhira required to appear in court on that date.

The notice was issued after Priya presented pre-summoning evidence, including documentary material. The complaint alleges that Mandhira made a "sustained and coordinated campaign" of defamatory statements in television interviews, podcasts, and digital media platforms. Priya claims these statements were "direct imputations" on her "integrity, professional competence, and legitimacy."

Senior advocate Maninder Singh, representing Priya, claimed that Mandhira had previously targeted her brother, Sunjay, and initiated legal action against his company to halt its IPO. This earlier dispute, which had gone to the Supreme Court, was ultimately decided in Sunjay's favor.

Following Sunjay Kapur's passing, Priya, now a legal heir, seeks access to divorce records. She claims these documents are crucial for the ongoing succession matter in the Delhi High Court. The backdrop includes Karisma's initial allegations of domestic abuse and substance abuse against Sunjay during their divorce proceedings. This led to a contentious legal battle. In 2016, the couple reached a mutual consent divorce, with Karisma withdrawing the domestic violence case. Subsequently, the Supreme Court dismissed the dowry case filed by Karisma, based on her consent. This legal history now impacts the estate's handling.

The legal dispute over Sunjay Kapur's estate involves Karisma's children, Samaira and Kiaan, and Priya, Sunjay's widow. The children contest Priya's will, alleging it's fake and designed to disinherit them. Accusations have flown between both parties in court.

About Sunjay Kapur’s estate case and his personal life

Currently, Karisma Kapoor's children, Samaira and Kiaan, are involved in a legal dispute with Priya over Sunjay's substantial estate. Samaira and Kiaan have petitioned the Delhi High Court, alleging that the will presented by Priya, Sunjay's third wife, is fraudulent. They claim the will was forged to prevent them from inheriting their late father's assets. Both parties have made numerous accusations against each other during the court proceedings.

Sunjay, the former chairman of Sona Comstar, a major auto parts manufacturer, passed away in London in June while participating in a polo match. He was previously married to Karisma Kapoor from 2003 to 2016, with whom he had two children: Samaira, born in 2005, and Kiaan, born in 2011. He married Priya in 2017, and they had a son named Azarias.
