Punit Malhotra talks about memes SOTY 2!

Recently, Karan Johar along with the entire cast of Student Of The Year 2 launched the first trailer of the film yesterday in Mumbai. Tiger Shroff, Tara Sutaria and Ananya Panday star in the sequel of the film; which launched Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Siddharth Malhotra in the film industry seven years ago.

The second installment is directed by Punit Malhotra and he says “I would have been disheartened if there were no memes on Student of the Year 2.”

The trailer of the film is instantly grabbing eyeballs as the trio is winning the hearts of the audience with their candid demeanor in the film and the action-packed drama. The film has been hitting the headlines for its memes and the massive trolling on social media websites.

After the trailer was released, it soon became the perfect fodder for memes with people trolling it for not being that impressive. Some even going as far as saying, they wasted the precious three minutes of their life on the trailer.

The director for SOTY 2 was quizzed about his take on the memes which have been doing the rounds on social media. Taking a positive stance on the memes shared on social media Punit Malhotra said, “I love the memes. I’ll tell you genuinely, I would have been disheartened if there were no memes on SOTY 2.

Like, Student is a film which you will have to put out memes, its a film which is made for a certain audience, a certain age group and this is the age group that makes those memes and if you don't get that then there's no fun of it. There's so many that I've been seeing and laughing at it. When I saw that one which was like, 'our annual day vs their annual day' and memes like that were outstanding, 'our school costume VS their school costume'.

So there are lots of memes and the fun things you will see. Like this kid doing the dance and many groups have started doing it. I love the fact that there's so much buzz around it! That's the fun of it. and when you see it, it's a film that deserves memes. Like once the film releases, it's gonna go to another zone altogether.”
