Sona Mohapatra Reacts to Priyanka Chopra getting Slammed for Smoking: Video Below

Sona Mohapatra is known for speaking her mind against any wrong doings in the society and when it comes to B-Town she never minces her words and boldly puts forth her opinions. She is very active on social media and seldom falls victim to social media trolling and slamming.

Recently, when we interviewed her for the release of her new Bengali single on Oriplast Originals’ platform, we quizzed her about the same and asked her about her take on the whole Priyanka Chopra smoking controversy.

For those unaware, Priyanka Chopra was recently slammed after her picture of smoking on the yacht from her birthday celebrations went viral. Netizens bashed the global icon for not practicing what she preaches.

Reportedly, a few months back, PeeCee was promoting smoke free Diwali citing health reasons for people suffering from respiratory issues and she also revealed that she has been suffering from Asthma since the age of five. Hence, when her picture of smoking a cigarette went viral, people on social media slammed her for being a hypocrite.

Reacting to the same, Sona said, “It’s not connected to me or the music. Honestly, when I speak out on social media, I speak out very spontaneously, I speak out on issues that are affecting a larger psyche of a country. I stand for certain things and certain values and belief system and I feel mass media as well as cinema and stars and narratives which come from… they play a big role in how the whole country and people behave. So, if you are going to show extreme sexist behavior, music that promotes stalking women, misbehaving with them, ched chad, you are going to normalize that behaviour and romanticize and glorify that behaviour, that is very dangerous.

It has a very big impact on the youth of the country because they consume all this and it plays a very big role and we actually see it changing in the way we are treated when you are traveling in the country. There has been a very healthy shift in the last ten years, even as a traveling musician I have noticed because of the fact that we are having all these debates and conversations and fights on social media.

My audience is very clue-dent to what I talk about and while I get slammed very often for being in a controversy every two months, when I am in the middle of it, it’s not easy you think why are you making enemies, why are you pissing off so many people in the industry but overall if is creating a conversation which is going towards a better change I think it’s all worth it.”
