Entertainment Industry which has introduced us the weird culture of 'Casting couch' or say 'Nepotism' has a lot other negativity going on too. Television actress, Additi Gupta reveals how in small screen, an artist is victimized to the culture of 'Type-casting.'

Additi Gupta, seen playing grey-shaded roles one after the other in Qubool Hai, Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil and Ishqbaaz feels that in the Indian entertainment industry, artists are categorised and type-casted with same roles over the period of time and are not permitted to experiment.

"Sometimes experimenting for an artist goes wrong. Entertainment industry is growing but the mind engaged into it is yet to be developed. If we talk about casting, they approach an artist for playing similar roles that they have played in their previous shows. I feel taking up Qubool hai to experiment playing negative character resulted in me getting a lot of appreciation, but enabled me to play similar roles in my next two shows. Now, it seems people approach me for only playing the grey and I don't want to be victim of type casting," said Additi who debut with telly series Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil playing the protogonist 'Heer'

She further adds in her statement, "I dont want to limit myself to only grey roles as I'm open for both good and bad characters. I am lucky to be appreciated for playing both the roles be it of that of a protagonist or an antagonist."

Additi said it perfectly. after all she herself experienced it. This pattern is very evident in actors playing negative roles.. the actor once play negative role will end up playing the same in next project too by now just looking at actors we can predict whether the character will be negative or positive.. i honestly hope this pattern will break in future. and additi will be able to come back with a positive lead role

Aditi Gupta is a very talented actor. That much I saw while watching her play negative and grey characters. I am not familiar with her earlier work as I was not watching Indian TV then. But she has always done justice to her roles. In fact the only other person I could think of that could have pulled off Maya in Beyhadh is Aditi! That is a huge compliment to her, coz she is equally good at emoting and dialogue delivery which I saw on Qubool Hai! She also has a strong screen prescense!

If someone admires your work and appreciates you even when you played a negative role, that means you did justice to it! Aditi should now do a positive role, to break the cycle! Good luck!

100% agree with additi. If you play a positive lead ..then you will get offers on same type.. if you play vamp role once then industry will offer you vamps only. This is so sad but a reality..
I hope additi will now come up with a positive lead role..

Thanks for sharing this article IF.
Eagerly waiting to see Additi Gupta back in a show as a main lead. She's so talented and deserves to be offered good shows with strong storylines. Be it in positive or negative roles, she portrays both with so much conviction.
Eagerly waiting for her come back! Come back soon Additi Gupta (if possible in a positive role? ^_^ )

Best wishes Additi
Happy Halloween:)
You're a wonderful and honest soul.
Love the positive characters that you enacted on TV - negatives I didn't follow as the shows or roles that were given to you are not something I could ever appreciate.
However you are Talent Filled soul with lot of fire and spirit and could easily get into the skin of character or performances that you do.
Thank you for entertaining us Additi
Love you and respect you.
This is a gorgeous pic - face looks so beautiful muwah

I agree with additi gupta...what she said is a big true... actress like additi gupta, sara khan, adda khan, urvashi dhokalia, anita hasanadnani they started their journey while playing the protagonist and then after few years when they experimented with negative roles or grey shade just for a change...but then they started getting offered for negative roles only...and end up playing negative roles in many shows bcs they have no choice left... that why many actors/actress are scared from experimenting with their roles on small screen...only exception is Jennifer winget who played negative role of maya in beyhad and even before the show ended she landed up with positive role in another show...
