It has been already reported that the Star Plus show, Dil Jaise Dhadke Dhadakne Do has been pulled down by the channel. Supernatural thriller Nazar 2 is also going off-air and both the shows won’t air post lockdown.

A leading entertainment portal got into a candid conversation with Shruti Seth from the show. She spoke at length about the show going off-air and the future of the TV industry.

Speaking about the same, Shruti said, “Right now, we have more important issues to grapple with Coronavirus cases in India topping 60k, and the data is unclear. I don’t want to cry about my situation, for sooner or later work will happen, spare a thought for the poor migrant labourer on the road. Yet I do feel bad for we never could around to tell the real story which would have began post leap. This decision to shut down seem to have come of late for just till ten days back the team was discussing new scripts, "says Shruti who has been around for many years (first call to fame Shararat).

Could the lower ratings have played a part in the final call? “I don’t know but from what I gather is that the channel was unsure of how much the audience will come back given this big break and our lower numbers could not have helped matters. Having said that not only our show several other series across channels had met a similar fate, and more culling could follow.”

Here Shruti adds that the TV industry faces an immediate grim future, “There would be huge layoffs with sets trimming down to meet safety guidelines. Actors and technicians would need to double up on skills to stay in the race. Based on my discussions with industry veterans, I don’t see shoots starting before mid-July which too would depend on graph dipping. One possible solution would be taking the entire cast and crew after testing to a single location and locking them up. In such a scenario, the limited series is the only out for how long would the actor be ready to stay away from home? Tight scripts will need to be ready before going on the floor as one once shoot starts no one might be allowed to leave or enter.”

Finite series should come up...long running shows should close their shops

Exactly limited series are the best way to follow right now. Endless episodes need a permanent full stop now. Limited series with fresh and entertaining content will also be appreciated by audience. Its time to go for seasonal shows now like american, british, korean, chinese, pakistani shows etc.
