A crew member working on preparations for a concert by Shakira in Brazil has died following an on site accident. The incident took place on Sunday, April 26, during the assembly of stage structures, according to organisers.

In an official statement shared on Instagram, organisers confirmed the fatality and said the worker was part of the team involved in setting up the venue. The statement read, “The event organisers confirm that an accident this Sunday afternoon (April 26) tragically claimed the life of a professional who was working on assembling the structures for the show.”

Initial details from the state fire brigade indicated that the worker suffered severe crushing injuries while operating a lifting system. Authorities stated, “A worker suffered crushing injuries to his lower limbs in a lifting system. Before the arrival of emergency teams, the victim had already been removed from the equipment by other employees present.” The account suggests that colleagues at the site attempted to assist immediately after the accident.

Emergency services responded to the incident, and the injured worker was provided initial treatment at the venue before being shifted to a hospital. Organisers said, “First responders provided initial care at the scene, and the Fire Department was immediately called to transport the patient. Unfortunately, the professional passed away at the hospital.”

The organisers also extended their support to those affected by the incident. In their statement, they said, “At this time, we are providing all support, comfort, and solidarity to the responsible company, its team, and the victim's family.”

The incident has raised concerns around safety protocols during large scale event preparations, particularly in high pressure environments involving heavy equipment and tight timelines. No further official details have been shared on whether an investigation has been initiated into the circumstances leading to the accident.

Separately, Shakira’s planned India performances have been postponed. The singer was earlier scheduled to perform in Mumbai at Mahalaxmi Racecourse on April 10 and at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on April 15. Organisers cited geopolitical situation and regional tensions as the reason for the delay.

The development has drawn attention to the risks faced by workers involved in large entertainment productions, especially during complex stage installations.
