Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Alia Bhatt and others mourn Asha Bhosle’s passing at 92

The passing of Asha Bhosle at the age of 92 on April 12 has led to widespread grief across the country, with members of the film fraternity, political leaders and music lovers expressing their condolences. The veteran singer, who had been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital, died following health complications, marking the end of a long and influential career.

Among those who reacted were actors Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, both of whom shared messages remembering the singer’s contribution to Indian music. Aamir wrote, “Ashaji's sudden demise is a shock to all of us and a loss which cannot be conveyed in words. She was the last of the great four. Ashaji passing away marks the end of an era. She will always live with us through her songs. Her voice will always ring in our hearts. My heartfelt condolences to her family. Love and respect always.”

Shah Rukh Khan also shared a personal note along with a picture, stating, “It's truly sad to learn about Asha Tai's passing. her voice has been one of the pillars of Indian cinema and will continue to resonate world over for centuries to come. A talent that will outlive many, she always showered me with blessings and love and i will miss her. Rest in Peace Asha Tai. love you.”

Tributes continued to pour in from across the industry. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences, noting the singer’s lasting contribution to Indian culture and music. Several actors, including Akshay Kumar, Kajol, Karan Johar, Vicky Kaushal and Sidharth Malhotra, shared messages remembering her work and influence.

Akshay Kumar wrote, “No words can convey the loss I feel at Asha Bhosle ji’s demise. Unki surily awaaz hamesha hamesha ke liye amar rahegi. Om Shanti.” Actor Hema Malini also reflected on her association with the singer, writing, “Asha Tai no more! I just can’t believe how some one so full of life, she who lent so much vivacity and character to her songs has left us grieving. It is especially hard for me as I have an emotional connect with Asha ji.”

Alia Bhatt also shared a brief note, posting a picture and writing, “A voice that lives forever ?? Asha ji ??”. Her message added to the growing list of tributes across platforms, reflecting how widely Asha Bhosle’s work resonated across generations.

Karan Johar, in his note, said, “To say we have lost a legend today would be an understatement. Asha ji was unlike any other, a voice that defined not only one generation but across a span of cinematic universe! I was and have been the massive fan of her voice, her art, her personality…Asha ji, your music will live on forever and we are blessed to experience the magic you have left behind forever! Rest in peace and power.”

Over a career spanning several decades, Asha Bhosle recorded thousands of songs across languages and genres, becoming a consistent voice in Indian cinema. Her work ranged from classical compositions to film songs and independent music, reflecting her adaptability.

Her influence extended beyond playback singing, shaping how female voices were perceived in mainstream cinema. Many younger singers have often cited her range and longevity as a point of reference. Even decades after their release, several of her songs continue to find space in playlists, live shows and film narratives.

Her songs remain closely tied to memories of different eras in Hindi cinema, with listeners often revisiting her work through films, radio and digital platforms.

Her son Anand Bhosle confirmed that a public homage will be held at her residence in Lower Parel, followed by last rites at Shivaji Park at 4 pm.
