Sara Ali Khan’s recent visit at a Temple in Varanasi has stirred up a storm of questions as ‘Local Pandits’ and the ‘Kashi Vikas Samiti’ raised objections on the grounds that she is a non-Hindu.
A few days ago she was shooting in Varanasi for her upcoming film - Atrangi Re, which also co-stars Dhanush and Akshay Kumar. Sara later took to her Instagram handle and shared a few photos of her from the serene and spiritually radiant city. She also shared a V-log in which she could be seen walking through the crowded lanes of Varanasi. A video on social media also showed Sara along with her mom Amrita Singh performing the Ganga Arti on the ghats of the holy river.
Her visit somehow sparked controversy and some seem to be irked by her visit to the temple. The local pundits and the Kashi Vikas Samiti have raised arguments that highlight her religion pointing out that Sara Ali Khan is a non-Hindu.
The report in IANS also quoted Chandra Shekhar Kapoor, the secretary of the Samiti.

- Chandra Shekhar Kapoor (The secretary of the Kashi Vikas Samiti)
He further stated that a few priests had violated norms as they probably got a handsome Dakshina (donation, fees or honorarium) and free publicity. The Kashi Vikas Samiti also demanded a probe into the visit and asked action to be taken against those who are responsible.

Amarnath Bajpai - A priest defended Sara as he mentioned that she was accompanied by Amrita Singh, who is a Hindu.
Though we appreciate her interest in the Hindu religion but the fact remains that she is a Muslim and should not have participated in the rituals. For her, all this could be 'interesting and exciting' but for us, it is a matter of religious piety.

Well she's definitely not a hindu but she isn't much of a muslim either. She was raised in a non-religious household since her father is a non-practicing muslim and her mother is a sikh.

Of all the ridiculous things! She was raised primarily by a devout Hindu mother and somehow she’s still judged on the basis of her father and her surname. The blatant patriarchy in all of this, including the fact that they’ve declared her non-Hindu without her ever having made that statement, is so ridiculous and antiquated. She seems like she dressed and behaved respectfully, so acknowledge that and give her the same respect.
