Sanjivani 2 Review: Rx, Five Episodes Recommended Throughout The Week!

In early 2000, Sanjivani, the yesteryear’s medical drama became a huge hit amidst the clutter of saas-bahu dramas on Television. Two years after, Producer Sidhharth Malhotra came up with another series, Dill Mill Gaye, a youth-oriented show based on doctors. Now, he is once again back with the reboot of the popular show Sanjivani. Retaining the lead pair Mohnish Bahl and Gurdeep Punj as Dr. Shashank Gupta and Dr. Juhi Singh, actors Surbhi Chandna and Namit Khanna are taking the legacy of Sanjivani ahead along with their sweet and sour chemistry.

Plot:

The show begins with the casanova Dr. Sid (Namit Khanna), who forgets the name of his booty call and rescues a drowning kid. After pulling the poor child out of the water, he comes up with a jugaad to save the kid, he uses a plastic tube from a neckpiece and calls a helicopter to take his patient to the ultimate destination - Sanjivani.

Dr. Ishaani (Surbhi Chandna), a self-righteous young lady and a first-year resident doctor,  comes across the protagonist Dr. Sid, and there instantly starts a verbal tussle between the two that goes on throughout the episode. 

Dr. Sid aka Namit Khanna is shown as the Robin-hood among the doctors who know that the rich enjoy luxuries and the poor suffer difficulties, hence he extracts money from the rich for his services and tries to use the same money to treat his poor patients. 

Female protagonist Dr. Ishani plays a self-righteous doctor, who doesn’t go on a corrupt path as well as doesn’t allow anybody else to do the same. Also, her ability to judge the patients’ symptoms by just looking at them makes her Sherlock Holmes in doctors.

Dr Shashank Gupta aka Mohnish Behl entry and the trademark background music of Sanjivani instills a nostalgia of those days which makes one feel like those golden days are back. He is the chief of doctors who will soon be resigning from his post but not leaving Sanjivani. 

So there is going to be a bit of drama around that angle too in the coming episodes.

Mr. Vardhan aka Rohit Roy is among the trustees of the hospital who is a money-minded man, a stark opposite of Dr. Shashank’s ideology which we get to know in the first episode itself.

Dr Juhi Singh (Gurdip Punj) wasn’t shown in the first episode but we saw her in the glimpses of upcoming episodes making the show even more intense, dramatic and interesting.

What we liked:

Mohnish Behl’s entry instills an intense nostalgia and a feel-good factor, taking us back to the good old days of TV screen, Dashing personality of Namit Khanna and his character portraying a Casanova with a good heart who cares for the underprivileged is another brownie point. He can be easily termed as the Robin-hood among the doctors. Surbhi Chanda’s straightforwardness and a “say no to malpractices” makes way for the drama to build up in the coming episodes. The character development of Namit Khanna and Surbhi Chandna ensures that there will be friction among the two young protagonists.

Also, the equal screen time for the new and the old characters gives a feeling that the show will cater to all kinds of audiences young and old, making it a complete family entertainment show.

Furthermore, the intensity, pace and seriousness of the show is rightly balanced without wasting much time on introduction and character buildup. 

What we didn’t like:

The meeting of Namit Khanna and Surbhi Chandna’s character, along with other new characters didn’t seem natural but in a haste. It doesn’t seem like the characters have met for the first time. Apart from this, some of the scenes were too melodramatic - a mother constantly crying and disturbing the doctors while the treatment is on.

Verdict:

Amidst the clutter of supernatural and meaningless shows, it's good to have a show like Sanjivani back on TV with a fresh cast and the same old spirit. With each scene, the show gets more intense but the touch of light humour has kept things balanced. We liked the character development and the plot is very well written. The show has high potential to keep the viewers engaged.
