Sanjay Leela Bhansali to commence filming of Heeramandi from April; will also direct a few episodes

Sanjay Leela Bhansali is currently basking in the success of his film Gangubai Kathiawadi that has been generating rave reviews from the audience as well as the critics. Alia Bhatt and SLB have been hailed for their stellar contribution to the film. Now, the filmmaker has some more exciting projects in the pipeline. 

Netflix unveiled its association with the filmmaker for Heeramandi in August of last year. Their social media post read, 

“We are excited to announce that Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi IS COMING TO NETFLIX. Words aren't enough to explain how excited we are that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is partnering with us for this epic Netflix Original series".

SLB is delighted to commence work on this period drama, which will premiere in April 2022, according to Pinkvilla. Bhansali's most ambitious venture is Heeramandi, and he is going all out to make it a success. In Filmcity, a massive set of Heeramandi has been built, exactly where Gangubai Kathiawadi's set was formerly built. The building is nearly finished. Meanwhile, the soundtrack will play a key role in the storyline, and they've already finished work on it. 

"Because of SLB's enthusiasm for music, he has been intimately involved in every composition," a report stated.

The filmmakers are currently in the last stages of pre-production before they begin filming in April. Heeramandi will be helmed by Mitakshara Kumar, who has previously worked with Bhansali and most recently directed Nikkhil Advani's The Empire. SLB will also direct a couple of episodes from the eight that will be shown in the first season.

According to reports, the show will feature Madhuri Dixit Nene, Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Huma Qureshi, Nimrat Kaur, and Sayani Gupta.
