Sacred Games v/s Made In Heaven: It's WORRYING that 'MIH' isn't as POPULAR as 'SG'; here's why

Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) Rocks. But so do Karan (Arjun Mathur) and Tara (Sobhita Dhulipalia).

"Kabhi Kabhi lagta hai, apun hi bhagwan hai!" Not many would have anticipated this quote to become as iconic as it is but courtesy the mammoth success that Sacred Games went on to become on Netflix, this and many other quotes and scenes of the series made the show the triumphant story it is.

Post Sacred Games and Mirzapur, we certainly have had a share of varied web shows at our foray, however, it is best to not mention a few of them as they were nothing but disappointing. Over a week ago, Amazon Prime Video released the much-talked about and awaited web series, Made In Heaven.

The thirst to binge on a quality Indian web show was finally quenched as Made In Heaven, according to me is one of the best that Indian web scene has presented. (Read my review here - http://https://www.india-forums.com/tellybuzz/critics-corner/51356-review-made-in-heaven-marries-the-pretentiousness-of-a-lavish-we.htm)

However, it is a worrying factor that Made In Heaven isn't getting the same level of popularity or buzz that Sacred Games or Mirzapur did. Don't get me wrong. I am probably a bigger fan of Sacred Games than many out there but here's why I think and analyze that Made In Heaven not being the talk-of-the-town as much as a phenomenon as Sacred Games is indeed worrying.

The Perplexing Connect Of Abuses

It is a blessing to have almost zero censorship on the digital platform, undoubtedly. And this isn't about the shows being censored but about viewers' perplexing connect with shows that offer abuses. Of course, I cannot imagine Sacred being as authentic and raw as it was had it not been for that and while I have no problems with that too, a maximum portion of the viewers seem to be only connecting with shows having a similar flavor as of late. I miss the times when shows like Pitchers, Tripling or Permanent Roommates got the same love as Sacred or Mirzapur do today. The gangster genre is fantastic but it is worrying that viewers are only connecting to that and missing out on other deserving candidates, like Made In Heaven.

An Amalgamation Of All

It is only realistic to not expect every web show to be a breakout success. But when a show like Made In Heaven is not included in the same category so far, it is a pity. The way the show engulfs every possible emotion and issues in the most entertaining and sophisticated way is what makes it brilliant. Without being preachy, Made In Heaven covers every point possible - infidelity, reservations about article 377, gender inequality, brutal and unforgiving side of Delhi, pomp and show that don't matter and most importantly, a beautiful friendship in the center. It amazes me how people aren't talking about it as much.

A Trend That Needs To Calm Down

The trend of gangster genre will only get bigger with the second season of Sacred Games all set to hit the web in the next few months. I am as excited as you are. But if I only consider the trend in general, that certainly needs to be given a rest collectively. Not just for Made In Heaven, but the masses will miss out on several other future gems too. The web scene is largely dependant on the meme brigade and word-of-mouth and many deserving shows unable to get that would be a pity indeed.

Sorry, I Don't Have Your Number

We all know how streaming platforms (at least the leading ones) do not release the numbers that probably determine the success of a particular web show to the general public. The only way viewers get talking and measuring the fruit of the show is by the amount of buzz it creates on the internet and other mediums. The way Sacred Games and Mirzapur went on to be a constant subject of the memes and many fan theories also started to play was enough to establish that these shows have hit the ball out the park. That hasn't quite happened with Made In Heaven yet but of course, that certainly doesn't mean it wouldn't have brought in viewership.

Being Open and Giving It A Chance

At the end of it, watching any presentation is a pure choice and nothing else. However, opening up and giving a chance to shows like Made In Heaven among others would just be justifying the root idea of presentations of the web - a plethora of variety being offered and given a platform for the varied tastes.
