For the longest time now, Saath Nibhana Saathiya 2 has been in the news, where taking over the lead roles will be Sneha Jain as well as Harsh Nagar. Meanwhile, the likes of Devoleena Bhattacharjee, Mohammad Nazim, Rupal Patel, Vandana Pathak, and a few others will reprise their roles from the first season. As we are shown in the first few minutes, none of the equations have changed, but Gopika (Devoleena) has undergone some evolution, one that is a welcome change. For instance, she drives the car to Surat as they are all set to pay a visit to the Desais.
While not much has changed between Gopika, Mota Bhabhi, Urmila, and Kokilaben, Aham is now Jagji, and we are yet to know more about the change of names just yet. Nonetheless, this also feels a lot like serving an old glass of wine in a new bottle as instead of Gopi, Gehna is the damsel in distress here. As is known by now, a couple brought her home 5 years ago and she stays with them in a family of two couples and a pair of twins.
Eventually, we are shown how she is mistreated in the house and both the couples don't treat her as a family member, but a servant. On the other hand, there is also a young man who seems to be harassing her, but that is all we know about that. For the first episode of a daily soap, there are multiple instances which make me question 'Does this even exist?' No matter what made the show return to the screens, it is regressive for the current times, especially the current times.
While we all are well aware of the acting prowess of all the people from the previous season, Sneha does a fair job at what she is asked to do, while the supporting cast members (the Desais) also fare decently. Amid all of the storytelling and the acting, the show is a major problem and almost nothing about it feels right. None the less, I will try to keep an open mind about what is in store and just how soon, we will see a transformation of sorts in the time to come.
While we have all known the premise that the show is set in and there is no denying that these are all things that ultimately, make up for the show's content. However, for such a well to do family with at least some nice people, it is too much to handle when a girl like Gehna is not only ill-treated but is also someone who decides to keep quiet about it when she has the chance to speak.
