Romanch Mehta on trolling for Kabhi Kabhie Ittefaq Sey: You feel like you're doing justice to your character

Romanch Mehta, who is essaying the role of Shankar Saxena in Kabhi Kabhie Ittefaq Sey plays a character which the audience will love.  The character shows how Romanch loves his daughter and can go to any extent for his daughter’s happiness. He is very positive but at the same time if something comes against her daughter, he would not let it go.

What has the kind of response been to your character and the track?

The response I have been getting has been really good. I was out for my cousin's wedding recently, and people were appreciating me there as well, those who were watching the show, saying that the track is good. Rest, it is a routine work, it is fun, and since it is a negative shade, it is a completely different at times, because I am positive when talking to my daughter, and other times negative.

Has there been any kind of trolling you've had to deal with?

Yes (laughs). Not proper trolling, but I receive a few messages with people asking me that how can you be such a father where you are supporting your daughter even when she is wrong. But reading those messages, you feel like you're doing justice to your character and people can see your negativity. People who watch the show, also keep sending memes on the show.

You entered the show mid-way, what has been the kind of equation and how easy/challenging was it to settle in?

The thing is, when you enter a running show, as an actor, you have to perform, but somewhere, there's discomfort, because other actors are a regular and are already set but you are new and you have to become a part of the team. Luckily, that did not happen, but the actors are so friendly and I knew a few people from well in advance, so it was good for me. I went for a look test one day before my shoot so I happened to meet them and I happened to form an equation right then. I did not feel like it was my first day.

When you pick up something after such a long time, what was that thought process for you like?

To be honest, it was a period of a year and a half since I haven't done a show, and I was working post lockdown but before second wave, I wasn't working. I was not doing a daily soap, and a lot of things have happened, including COVID-19 wave, I lost my father, and then 4-5 months went by at home then I came back, tried to start again and give auditions and when that was not working but I will start working on myself. Then, once everything fell into place, and I got offers but they did not sound very interesting but I knew that I have to restart my work, and I don't have a choice. But, I also knew that if I work this, the good work in the past my suffer. If you create an image, you become typecast, do that did not work out. Then, I got this show and when I was told about the character, I did not have a second thought.
