Rohit Shetty expands his cop universe, will produce a biopic on former police commissioner Rakesh Maria

Rohit Shetty and his cop universe is all set to include a new chapter. The filmmaker has decided to make a biopic on the life of former Police commissioner Rakesh Maria who has seen it all from the 1993 blasts to the 26/11 attacks.

Bollywood Filmmaker Rohit Shetty and his cop universe is known to all. And it seems like the fans will be treated with some amazing additon in this cop universe which already had brillaint films like Singham, Singham Returns, Simmba and Sooryavanshi.

Now, Rohit Shetty and Reliance Entertainment have teamed up once more to film biography on Rakesh Maria, one of Mumbai's most respected top cops and former Commissioner of Police, Mumbai.

The biography will be based on his successful work achievements and will be directed, an acclaimed director by Rohit Shetty.

Talking about the announcement, producer & director, Rohit Shetty said, 

“Rakesh Maria: The man who stared terror in the face for 36 years!! His incredible journey spans all the way from the 1993 blasts in Mumbai, the underworld menace, to the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008. Feel truly honored to be bringing this real-life super cop’s brave & fearless journey to the screen!!”

Rakesh Maria, an IPS officer, passed the 1981 batch of the Civil Service Examination. He handled the Bombay serial explosions case as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) in 1993, and afterwards went to DCP (Crime) and then Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) for the Mumbai Police. 

Maria cracked the case of the twin bombs at the Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar in 2003. Maria was also tasked with investigating the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks in 2008, and she successfully interviewed Ajmal Kasab, the lone terrorist apprehended alive.

Rakesh Maria commented on the same saying, 

“It is exciting to re-live the journey, especially when piloted by a brilliant director like Rohit Shetty. More than the nostalgia, it’s also a valuable opportunity to place before the people the extraordinary work of the Mumbai Police when facing tough challenges and working against all odds.”

Meanwhile, Rohit Shetty is gearing up for his debut web series, Indian Police Force. He introduced new cops in his cop universe which includes Sidharth Malhotra and Shilpa Shetty, actor Vivek Oberoi. The show will be streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
