'Rock On Is The First Hindi Rock Album' - Ehsaan Noorani

Ehsaan Noorani is the man behind many successes like Kal Ho Na Ho, Taare Zameen Par, Lakshya, and Bunty Aur Babli! His next film Rock On is heating up the charts as audiences are loving the young and youthful feel of the album! We catch up for a small chit chat with this musical maestro!

The famous trio of Shankar Ehsaan Loy - how did it first form?
We came together to compose the music for Mukul Anands film Dus.

You have given super hit blockbuster songs in the last few years. From films like Kal Ho Na Ho to the recent Taare Zaamen Par have beautiful music scores by the your trio. Today this trio has come to be known as a brand - how does it feel?
Well its good to be known as a brand we have worked hard at it and continue to do so. Even though one is known as a brand we have to strive to keep the sound fresh and unpredictable.

Rock On's music is out! What makes this album different from your previous work?
The music of Rock On is out and out rock in Hindi . The format is totally different which is the western format of Verse , Chorus and Bridge as opposed to the typical Mukhda and Antra . For the first time an actor ( Farhan Akhtar ) has done some serious singing and not just amateur stuff like has been done by other actors in Hindi Films in the past ( barring Mr. Bachchan ) . I would say it is the first Hindi film rock album.

How has it been working with Faran Akhtar once again after Dil Chahta Hai?
Working with Farhan is always a lot of fun and very fulfilling he is very very talented at what he does and brings out the best in us.

What is your favorite song from the album Rock On?
For me this entire album is special as it is a style of music i have always been into and is very close to me.

You are also giving music for an upcoming Telgu film. How does it feel to step out of Bollywood?
Film makers from the South have completely different sensibilities and are very fond of good melody one can try and experiment a little more . Working on this Telegu film has been a lovely experience besides Telegu is a very sweet and musical language and our melodies sound lovely in Telegu.

Chandni Chowk To China directed by Nikhil Advani starring Akhsay Kumar and Deepika Padukone releases later this year. How would you describe the experience of working on the music for this film?
Nikhil is an old friend and we have a lovely working relationship with him . We have had a lot of fun composing the music for C. Chowk and the songs have turned out nice.

Lastly what does the crystal ball show for the coming future for Ehsaan Noorani?
That I keep playing music till the day I die and that my growth as a musician never stops.
