Rinku Singh’s father passes away; Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh lead emotional tributes

India batter Rinku Singh suffered a personal loss on Friday after his father, Khanchand Singh, passed away in Greater Noida following a prolonged illness. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital and died in the morning.

Rinku, currently part of India’s T20 World Cup squad, has left the team to be with his family. The 28 year old cricketer from Aligarh has often spoken about his father’s role in his journey. Khanchand Singh worked in gas cylinder distribution and supported his son’s cricketing ambitions despite financial challenges.

Earlier in the tournament, Rinku had briefly returned home when his father’s health worsened. He rejoined the squad ahead of the February 26 fixture against Zimbabwe but did not feature in the playing eleven for that match.

Messages of support poured in from across the cricketing fraternity. Former India captain Virat Kohli wrote on X, “Deeply saddened by the news of Rinku’s father’s demise. My heartfelt prayers and thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time. May you always find strength in his eternal blessings. Om Shanti. @rinkusingh235.”

Former all rounder Yuvraj Singh also expressed grief, posting, “Heartbreaking news to hear of the passing of Rinku's father. In moments like these, no words feel enough. Standing in solidarity with you and your family during this difficult time. May you find strength and courage in the love that surrounds you.”

Veteran opener Virender Sehwag shared, “Rinku, deeply saddened to hear about the passing of your father. Your father raised a truly strong and wonderful son through so many sacrifices, and that is his greatest legacy. Stay strong, @rinkusingh235. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your entire family. Om Shanti.”

Shikhar Dhawan wrote, “Rinku, my deepest condolences to you and your loved ones. May your father’s soul rest in peace and may you find strength in this tough moment. Om Shanti @rinkusingh235.”
