Review: 'JugJugg Jeeyo' wraps you in a warm hug filled with emotions, humour & drama

After watching the trailer of JugJugg Jeeyo with a celebrated ensemble cast like this, one would have anticipated the unfolding of a family drama with some songs, romance, and comedy. While the movie delivered them all, it did it in a way that struck the right balance amongst it.

After watching the trailer of JugJugg Jeeyo with a celebrated ensemble cast like this, one would have anticipated the unfolding of a family drama with some songs, romance, and comedy. While the movie delivered them all, it did it in a way that struck the right balance amongst it, ensuring that you leave the theatre with a smile on your face and a feeling of fulfilment in your heart. So here is my take on Raj Mehta's JugJugg Jeeyo-

The Story & Script

The Story & Script

Raj Mehta strives to delve profoundly into the marriage of two couples who are on the verge of taking a divorce but with a comic slant. He establishes the plot by illustrating how complications creep into the relationship of Kukoo (Varun Dhawan) and Naina (Kiara Advani), who were childhood sweethearts and then get married. The toughest component of their decision to divorce after five years of marriage is confronting their families, particularly to Kuku's raucous family, who are gearing up for the wedding of their youngest child Ginni (Prajakta Koli).

The true complication arises when Kukoo learns that his father Bheem (Anil Kapoor), who has fallen in love with Meera, (Tisca Chopra) also intends to divorce his wife Geeta (Neetu Kapoor). The entire storyline is a roller coaster of emotions and relationship dilemmas that are challenging to tackle but are done so with due compassion.

The Direction

The Direction

With this one, Raj Mehta has proven his mettle and unquestionably elevated his game after Good Newzz. JugJugg Jeeyo, can argued to be one of the best family dramas made in recent times, thanks to its gripping and dramatic narrative. He managed to squeeze out the best from the cast members both individually and collectively. Even if you haven't actually experienced the situation, you'll resonate with the characters in some emotionally charged scenes like the one in which Kiara and Neetu have a heart-to-heart conversation or Kiara and Varun's fight sequence. And, if nothing else, it will surely ignite a thought in your head and evoke your emotions.

The Music

The Music

The film's music is catchy and tunes like 'Nach Punjaban' have already created a buzz on social media. The inclusion of the song in the second half expedites the rhythm of the narrative, and the audience will retain the engagement with the wedding song for quite some time. The songs don't tend to interrupt the plot and blends well into the narrative.

The Dialogues

The Dialogues

The dialogues of the film does play a strong part to keep up with its comical component. Maniesh Paul's one-liners are bound to get you in splits and at the same time make it happen organically. Jugjugg Jeeyo has a background score to push you to chuckle in case some of the jokes don't quite land, while certainly most of them do.

There are strong monologues having the gravitas demanded to withstand the movie's emotional scenes.

The Acting

The Acting

Kukoo is played masterfully by Varun Dhawan. Infact, he is required to portray a wide range of emotions throughout the entire movie, including rage, disappointment, being perplexed and, of course, some comical scenes - this makes it all the more complex for the actor to ace it in all the mettle.

Kiara Advani's performance merely serves as a hint as to how brilliant an actor she is and how versatile she is. Be it being able to pull off an emotionally challenging sequence while also being her usual cheery self.

Anil Kapoor steals the show and is my personal favourite in the entire film. As the exuberant and eccentric family patriarch Bheem, the actor is in great form. He makes you root for him despite all of his eccentricities, meanwhile giving you the essence that the character was created just for him.

Neetu Kapoor, who is making a comeback in the movie, is incredibly lovable and appealing and furthermore, thrives in the part. She takes over the stage and delivers her best in the second half. Although Prajakta Koli makes a strong big screen debut, she has a long way to go and explore. Maniesh Paul is the ideal choice to play the extravagant and flamboyant Gurpreet and stays quite loyal to his character.

The Verdict

JugJugg Jeeyo is a warm hug wrapping you, filled with emotions, drama and humour. It is an wholesome family entertainer and promises to leave a smile on your face as you leave the theatre.
