Rakul Preet Singh: I am open to a show or a movie on OTT platforms

The concept of a pan-India star isn't new, but it's certainly trendy these days. The industry and national recognition for actors like Prabhas, Ram Charan, Jr NTR, and Allu Arjun appears to have become a topic of conversation everywhere. 

What has most likely been overlooked in the debate is how the leading ladies have done it for years and continue to do so today. When one thinks of a pan-India actress, names like Rakul Preet Singh, Pooja Hegde, and Taapsee Pannu come to mind. Rashmika Mandanna, who will make her Hindi film debut later this year, is also all set to join the club. 

When this was brought up, Rakul, who recently spoke with Bombay Times, responded, 

Of course, we have done it! It’s become a point of conversation today because people have had the time in recent months to watch regional films on OTT platforms. People have seen regional films in big numbers and that seems to have sparked off conversations. Earlier, regional films had a limited release and reach. The audience base is way larger today and they’re lapping up stories from so many parts of the country and the world. People are engaging with stories. Baahubali changed a lot of the dynamics a few years ago with its pan-India business. And slowly, the barriers are blurred. Good entertainment and content is wanted everywhere. This conversation is beneficial to everyone.

It has been established that OTT platforms have a certain level of reach and provide actors with a unique set of opportunities to play some truly unique and challenging roles. Talking about the same, Rakul says, "

I find myself attracted and kind of prepared for the digital platforms. Though there is nothing on the table at the moment that excites me but I am open to a show or a movie on the OTT platforms. The content and the character are what matters. The role has to be kickass and central to the story. It must push me to do something new and different.

Talking about work, Rakul Preet will be next seen in ‘Chatriwali’, ‘Runway 34’, ‘Attack’, with all of them being scheduled to release this year.
