"Kangana Ranaut is right, all these award ceremonies are a big sham"...

...Says actor Akshay Dogra as he gets candid with India Forums about how the industry has gone from giving money more importance over skills.

While randomly browsing through social media this morning, I came across a lengthy post by actor Akshay Dogra, who wrote about how the TV industry had substantially changed from the time when he entered the industry.

Read the post here.

We got in touch with Akshay and here's what he said, "Nothing per say got me riled up or compelled me to write this post. But what did bother me was the fact of not being nominated in any of the recent award shows. Because the kind of work that I have done in my last few shows (Do Dil Ek Jaan, Waaris), I kind of felt like I should have at least been nominated. Ms. Kangana Ranaut is actually right about award shows - they are all a sham. Most people do not deserve the awards they get. That's why it's a sham, having said that there are some who deserve the awards and actually do win. But mostly it's all for show."

"I just felt the need to let people out there, including budding actors know that its not all hunky dory here in the industry. I am not on a crusade or something, but it's important for all to know the reality. I came into the industry at a time where skill was given more importance over money making. And there is disappointment on a daily basis when your work is not acknowledged. Its sad but that's how the industry has become now," said Akshay.

So is there a hint of nepotism here in this situation? To this Akshay replied, "See there is no such thing as nepotism for TV. The TV industry can't have nepotism. I am an introvert and I rely on my work and skills to speak for me. But the thing in this industry is that need to socialise and make friends. I've been down that part and tried really hard but I can't go out and fake a smile."

The actor also went on to reveal, "I had tried to be myself and let my work speak for me. But when that stopped happening, people expected me to go out and socialise and ask for work. Some people have that kinda brain to get their work done somehow and some people are simply artists who expect their work to speak volumes. Out there, its like "yaar isko jaante hai chalo le lete hai show mein."

Akshay feels that he'd rather be out in search of quality work and not push himself on other people, "I have tried to go out and get accustomed to this socialising trend, but found it fake. I'd rather do minimal but quality work than push myself on people or butter them up to give me work."

Akshay does have a valid point here, doesn't he?

So true! I mean all you have to do is look at IB recently! They win almost every award every year no matter how terrible the story or the acting is. There are so many awesome shows with some brilliant performance from outstanding actors but they never even get nominated.

I think they should start - "Most repetitive performance" award - I bet many will get nominated..

Unique performance must be identified and appreciated.

It really requires a lot of courage to speak up in such a huge crowd of Bollywood and tellywood. These award shows are only a game of money, connections and fame.Real talent has lost it's importance. I have not watched any of his shows but what he said is absolutely true. These awards are sham. Very soon others will also speak up. Most of them don't speak coz they fear about their image in the industry but this won't go long bcz true faces are revealed some day.

So true only the popular actors who work with the top producers only win awards while the rest of the hard working actors/actress don't get any recognition for their performances.

I have not seen Akshay's latest show, but just watched the clip and his performance is great. I saw him in a negative Avatar in a few episodes of Punar Vivah and was really impressed. Cant beleive it was the same guy who played nice guy Akashy in IPK1. He is right, awards are mostly won by people who are willing to play games. He is a much better actor than some who are over hyped.

So true akshay bhaiyya... One recent event in malayalam film fraternity announces vinayakan as best actor in state film awards for his extra ordinary acting in kammattipaadam... Evryone congratz him, but then commercial film award shows which gives so much importance to stardom and money announces best actor award to nivin... Not only one award shows but many such... Good thing was nivin openly admit he didn't deserve it and dedicated each one to vinayakans acting...
Same was in the case of salim kumar who got best actor award in national level got only jurys special mentions in big channel oriented award shows.. Its all abt fandom, money and stardom...
If we look at talented base, rajkumar, navasudheen, irfaan khan will be best actors in film fare..

I so agree with Akshay Dogra - you are far better than Barun and all the hype he got for the most stupid ipk3. My mom and I are regular fans of Waaris. Especially my mom loves Jagan's character portrayal by Akshay D. I always wonder why Akshay D never gets an award be it - lunar Vivaldi, Waaris etc while Etta's yhm and Divyanka-Vivek always socialize and snatch awards from deserving people like Mohit-Sanaya and are so arrogant about it.

Absolutely right
But every industry is like this.. Connections get you an entry pass..
After that its upto the individual really.

He is right...Akshay Dogra all the best for ur future projects. U portrayed the negative character of Jagan In waaris very well. U deserves better than this one in future.

Akshay Dogra is absoluetly right, be it Bollywood or Tellywood, it's all about connections and money. Talent is neglected and acting is the last criteria for awards nowadays. Thanks for speaking up, it needs courage to speak up openly against the rulers.
