Today is Guru Purnima. A day dedicated to all the Gurus who have taught us the lessons of our lives. We never intend to fail to preach what our gurus have taught us. As we celebrate Guru Purnima today, we got in touch with Ankita Sharma. She was a dance teacher prior to her acting career. So what better than asking Ankita itself about her experience as a teacher as well as a student?
Ankita has been featured in shows like Baat Hamari Pakki Hai, Sawaare Sabke Sapne - Preeto, Amrit Manthan and the very recent on Colors' Rangrasiya as Laila.
Ankita
used to learn Kathak and from her classes they were assigned to teach dancing
in various schools, and this is how she became a dance teacher.
Read on what Ankita has to say on this Guru Purnima.
"It is an amazing feeling to be a teacher. For me teaching has given me some really beautiful memories."
As she goes down the
memory lane, Ankita speaks about her favorite student, how was it being a
teacher and message to her students as well as her teachers on this auspicious
occasion of Guru Purnima. "All my students are
so good and for me they are the best students of the world. Be it big or small,
they used to share every single thing with me. Along with their teacher, I was
also their friend.
I remember one of my favourite students is Ishaan Hilal. The incident when he left his house just to perform in my show is still so fresh in my mind. He was a Muslim and his father did not allow him to perform the classical dance form Kathak, which made him to leave his home. I felt really bad for him. But later when I made him understand, he went back home. I personally went on to his parents and spoke to them and they allowed him to perform. When Ishaan performed on the stage, I felt so proud to be his teacher and that is one moment I will cherish throughout my life."
Ankita likes her students and how? "I love all my students and will cherish each and every moment spent with them."
What about your teachers when you were young? "Miss Kohli was my sports teacher and she used to admire and adore me a lot. When I became a teacher, I was very much inspired by her and followed her footsteps. "
When asked her for a message that Ankita would like to give to her students as well as her teachers, she simply utters these beautiful four lines.
"Gurur-Brahmaa Gurur-Vissnur Gurudevo Maheshvarah,
Gurur Shakshat Param Brahma,
Tasmai Shrii-Gurave Namah"
(Meaning: The Guru is Brahma, Guru is Vishnu, Guru Deva is Maheswara (Shiva),
The Guru is verily the Para-Brahman (Supreme Brahman); Salutations to that Guru.)
