Priyanka Chopra Reveals How a Simple White Salwar Kameez Led to Her Iconic Role in Krrish

Priyanka Chopra's Bollywood journey is a story of dedication and chance. Having entered the industry without any connections, she recently shared an interesting tale about her role in Krrish (2006), where she played opposite Hrithik Roshan. At the Red Sea International Film Festival (RSIFF), Priyanka recalled how filmmaker Rakesh Roshan noticed her at a funeral, which eventually led to her being cast in the film.

It was at the funeral where Priyanka, dressed in a simple white salwar kameez, caught Rakesh Roshan’s attention. He was struck by her simplicity and genuine nature. Intrigued, he asked directors Abbas-Mustan, who had worked with Priyanka on Aitraaz (2004), to show him some footage of her performance

Priyanka was nervous about the casting, fearing she wouldn't fit the role. She explained, “I was terrified that I would never get the role because the Priya in Krrish was super innocent, just not worldly, and had belief in the goodness of people, kind of person, and Sonia in Aitraaz was the complete opposite—she would eat you alive."

Despite her concerns, Priyanka was chosen for the role. Rakesh Roshan reassured her, saying, “I wasn’t looking at the character you were playing, I was looking at how authentic you were in your scenes, and you were an amazing actor. I knew you could play anything."

Priyanka also reflected on the valuable lesson she learned while playing Sonia in Aitraaz. She shared, “I learnt a very important lesson in my career, which is that I should not judge by characters. As an actress, I play many different kinds of people, but if I start judging what those people do, I can’t play them authentically."

The roles of Sonia and Priya were crucial in shaping Priyanka's career. Despite the challenges, her dedication to playing diverse roles paved the way for her successful career in Bollywood and internationally.
