The legal dispute around late businessman Sunjay Kapur’s estate saw another important exchange in the Delhi High Court after his wife, Priya Kapur, defended the contents of his will. She told the court through her counsel that it is a healthy tradition for a husband to leave all his assets to his wife. The statement came soon after Karisma Kapoor’s children, Samaira and Kiaan, raised fresh objections over the document. Both are seeking a one-fifth share each from their father’s estate.
Priya’s side argued that the practice existed in the Kapur family long before Sunjay drafted his own will. Her counsel said that Sunjay’s father had also chosen to leave everything to his wife, Rani Kapur. According to PTI, senior advocate Rajiv Nayar told the court that there was nothing unusual about this pattern. He said, there is nothing suspicious about a husband giving everything in his assets to his wife, and added that the same approach had been followed earlier in the family.
Nayar also described how the will was prepared. He said that a printout of the draft was shared with Sunjay Kapur on February 10, 2025. Sunjay suggested certain edits, and those changes were incorporated. The final set of modifications was completed on March 17, 2025, while Sunjay was in Goa. Nayar added that Priya Kapur’s will was drafted on the same day as Sunjay’s, explaining that couples often choose to prepare such documents together.
The dispute remains complex, with Sunjay’s mother and sister also raising concerns about the will’s authenticity. Priya continues to defend the document while facing a detailed challenge from Sunjay’s children, represented legally by their mother, Karisma Kapoor.
Sunjay Kapur, who served as chairman of Sona Comstar, passed away in June in London while playing a polo match. His first marriage to Karisma Kapoor lasted from 2003 to 2016. They share two children. Sunjay later married Priya in 2017.
