The criticism arose after he conducted her final rites according to Christian customs, despite his public declaration of atheism. The funeral took place in Bengaluru on March 31st, with poignant images capturing the actor's emotional farewell to his mother.

Following the online release of images from the church service, a segment of users on X initiated inquiries regarding the actor's position. Numerous individuals referenced a past video where Prakash Raj had identified as an atheist, inquiring about his decision to adhere to religious practices.

In response to the criticism, Prakash Raj clarified that his choice was motivated by respect for his mother's religious beliefs.
"Yes. I don't believe in god .. but my mother believed in her god. Who am I to deny her the right to be buried according to her belief. This is the basic respect we give one another. Will you hate mongering monsters understand this #justasking," he wrote.
Who is Suvarnalatha?
Suvarnalatha's life narrative showcases resilience. Born in Karnataka to a Christian family, she reportedly experienced an upbringing as an orphan and subsequently worked as a nurse, where she encountered her future husband. Their relationship culminated in marriage, and they established a family unit.
In her later years, she encountered significant health adversities. Prakash Raj previously disclosed that she was diagnosed with a brain cyst and underwent surgery, resulting in severe memory loss and difficulty in recognizing even immediate family members. She is survived by her three children, with Prakash Raj holding the position of the eldest.
