Pooja Bedi on her divorce, being single mom to Alaya, Omar: ‘My children were called baggage’

Actor Pooja Bedi had tied the knot to businessman Farhan Furniturewala in 1994 and the couple called it quits in 2003 as they underwent a divorce. The duo have two kids: Alaya and Omar together.

In a recent interview, Pooja opens up about her divorce and being a single mom to her kids. She shares the comments that were thrown at her during her divorce and how people told her to think about her children and her own future. Speaking to Peepingmoon, Pooja said:

“Way back then at a time when I got divorced, almost 18 years ago, it was a massive deal to be divorced and move forward. 'Shadi kaun karega tumse? Baccho ka socho. Khud ka kyu soch rahi ho (Who will marry you? Think about the kids. Why are you thinking about yourself?). How will you find love again? Who will marry you? You are alone, divorced, you have baggage. My children were called baggage. I was like hello! They are my assets."

Further, Pooja also shares how she saw it in her own family as her father and veteran actor Kabir Bedi underwent divorce too and had four marriages. She added:

“For me, it is also about the way I grew up. I grew up in a divorced family, knowing fully well that yes, you do find love again. And again and again. My father has been married four times now.”

Pooja Bedi is now engaged to Maneck Contractor. 

During the promotions of her debut film Jawaani Jaaneman, Alaya F had opened up about her parent’s divorce and her relationship with her stepmother. She had told Pinkvilla:

“Now, my father has remarried and I have another brother Zan who I love dearly. People ask me, ‘How do you get along with your stepmother?’ I liked her. I have never known otherwise. I have a very good relationship with (Maneck) too. They are all wonderful, happy people so I have also been happy with them.”
