Pink to Shabaash Mithu: 5 films with Taapsee Pannu that speaks volumes on women empowerment

Here are Taapsee Pannu's 5 films that voiced women's empowerment aloud in society.

Taapsee Pannu

Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu has never failed to impress all with her performances on the big screens. The actress is currently making headlines for her impressive upcoming project Shabaash Mithu which has been one of the most anticipated movies, wherein Taapsee will be seen donning the blue jersey for the first time on the silver screen.

Today, the makers of the film dropped the trailer of Shabaash Mithu and fans can't get over it already. To note, the actress will be seen playing the role of the captain of the Indian women's national cricket team Mithali Raj in the movie.

Well, interestingly the actress has always voiced women's empowerment in her films. From Pink to Thappad, she has never failed to disappoint us.

Pink

The film emphasizes a woman's right to her own sexuality. Pink highlighted a dark aspect of our culture that most of us were ignorant of. It also highlights lesser-known legal rights that every woman should be aware of. The Pink sisters face a difficult trial in court as they battle for their honour. Even when they are innocent, the system takes time to recognize this. Ultimately, they triumph despite all odds.

Saand ki Aankh

The biographical movie narrates the inspiring story of two of the world’s oldest female sharpshooters, Chandro and Prakashi Tomar, who defied ageism and took up sharpshooting in their 60s. They take up shooting after having spent several decades working in the fields, bearing babies, and performing neverending household chores. The film made a loud socio-cultural comment on women's empowerment and gender equality.

Thappad

It is a story of all Indian women and their silent suffering, which seems to be inbuilt. The film focuses on Amrita, but also juxtaposes her story with those of the women around her. Though Thappad is not based on a true story it may as well be a true story as the director makes this film so relatable. Dialogues like “thoda bardasht karna sikhna chahiye auraton ko” are all too familiar.

Rashmi Rocket

Taapsee in Rashmi Rocket

Rashmi, a small-town girl, overcomes cultural hurdles and rises to national prominence. Her career, however, reaches rock bottom when she is compelled to take a gender test. The film takes its major plot point from the real-life story of Dutee Chand, who was disqualified after she was found to have excessive testosterone (hyperandrogenism) after she won a race. The film is a reality check for the patriarchal society.

Shabaash Mithu

Mithali Raj, noted for her record-breaking 23-year international cricket career, scored over 10,000 runs in ODIs. The film chronicles her path to becoming a great cricketer and an inspiration to billions of girls and women worldwide. The trailer encapsulates the theme of 'nazariya badlo, khel badal gaya' which speaks volumes in itself. With the trailer having just come out, it definitely promises another storing story about a woman, played by a woman.

I like that she does hatke roles and does not settle for flower pot roles!👏🏼👏🏼

Go Taapsee keep making your films, you have carved out a niche and on that platform you can rule your corner of the world. Haters are only reluctant admirers and would be imitators.
