Bollywood actress Shikha Talsania was first seen in the Ranbir Kapoor and Konkona Sen Sharma starrer Wake Up Sid in 2009.
And later in many movies like Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji, My Friend Pinto and many more.
One of her projects Shikha feels proud of is Veere Di Wedding starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Sonam Kapoor. “It took me nearly 10 years to land a role in a film like this,” says Shikha, talking very proudly about the big ticket Bollywood venture.
The Veere Di Wedding actress who doesn’t fit into the quintessential heroine physique, the one which lead actors of Bollywood flaunt, is happy that filmmakers are looking beyond and are not stereotyping her anymore.
She says,
“People have a habit of looking up to the lead heroines who flaunt cookie cutter physiques. Even when I was aspiring to become an actor I wasn’t focusing on my body structure, but just acting. I wanted to act and that’s it. Whenever I watch films I wonder how smoothly and convincingly the actor delivered the dialogues. I would also wonder if I was acting in that film, how I would do those expressions on screen, or what new could I bring to the table.”
Also initially she’s played characters with body image issues, she isn’t complaining.
Recalling the same the actress said,
“I am really proud of the fact that I played those characters. For the longest time, their representation on screen has been weird. They were either shown as hungry, horny or just funny. Uske aalawa inn characters mein kuch nahi that. But have we ever wondered what’s going on in their minds or hearts? So, I am very happy that I got to represent that. I am very happy that I have been a part of the inclusivity and diversity that we need in this industry. Today, I get to do parts that have nothing to do with physicality, but to do with my skill set and I’m loving every bit of it.”
The actress was last seen in a Marathi webseries.
Let us tell you in Veere Di Wedding Shikha played a young mother who marries without her parents’ consent.
The film also features Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor and Swara Bhaskar. It was recently reported that the sequel has been given the go-ahead and the four ladies are all set to reprise their roles.
