One More 'Downtown Abbey' In The Works? Producer Confirms But Not So Soon

If you thought the world of Downtown Abbey was seen the last time when the movie of the same name was recently released - well, that is not it. The film became one of the few ones who successfully presented a film that was based on a TV series, where not only did the film do great numbers but achieved critical acclaim.

So, another Downtown Abbey movie is possible? It certainly is likely but only not so soon, producer Gareth Neame said, Fellowes and Neame were quizzed about a sequel to Downton Abbey: The Movie, which enjoyed a successful release earlier this year.

“Fortunately, it has worked,” Neame said at the Content London conference’s Drama Summit. “It’s Focus Features’ biggest film ever, it broke the record held by ‘Brokeback Mountain’ for many years, it’s Universal’s biggest release in the U.K. all year, and [it’s] so far grossed about $185 million globally.

“We all enjoyed it. The actors enjoyed it, so hopefully, we’ll find a way to come back for more.” For now, Fellowes and Neame are invested in HBO's period drama, The Gilded Age which Neame said was consuming both his and Fellowes’ time and energy.

Well, we certainly won't complain of having another Downtown Abbey film, would we?
