Not Aamir Khan but Shah Rukh was the first choice for Forrest Gump remake! Proof below…

Bollywood actor Aamir Khan is all set to impress the audience with upcoming movie Laal Singh Chaddha, an official remake of Tom Hanks’ Hollywood classic Forrest Gump. During a media interaction of his birthday, the actor had shared the news of his upcoming movie. 

He had said, "My next film is finalized it is called 'Laal Singh Chaddha'. It is being made by Viacom18 Motion Pictures and Aamir Khan Productions together. It will be directed by Advait Chandan. It is an adaptation of Hollywood film 'Forrest Gump'. We have bought the rights from Paramount... I am playing the lead role of Lal Singh. 

"We have started the prep work on the film. The shoot will start in October. I will be prepping for six months. I have to lose weight. I will be losing 20 kgs. I have to be lean and slim. I have always loved 'Forrest Gump' as a script. It is a wonderful story about this character. It is a life-affirming story. It is a feel-good film. It is a film for the whole family."

Now that the movie is in the shooting stage, an interview of director Kundan Shah with Rediff reveals that the movie was supposed to be made with Shah Rukh Khan. As per the interview, Forrest Gump’s remake was to be made about almost two decades back in the mid-90s and that the director had already signed SRK for the said film.

While SRK made his Bollywood debut with 1992’s Deewana, it was in the late-90s that director Kundan Shah had thought that he will make a remake of the Hollywood film, The Forrest Gump. In fact, he had also thought of casting Anil Kapoor in the lead role.

Talking about the same, as quoted by SpotboyE, the director had said, “Anil Kapoor realises the dedication required to make such a film. See, the stars are an indicator of a film. They are important in the sense that they take the cream of the money and the credit. And this won't change unless the director doesn't become the star of a film.”

While announcement for the same was made as well, the movie ran into production problems and the Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro director was not one of the most diplomatic personalities back then as well, the movie was indefinitely shelved.

Well as per recent developments, Aamir wants to rope in Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan for very important cameos in Laal Singh Chaddha. While Aamir has lost over 20 kilos to play the younger version of the titular role, Kareena will have to go through prosthetic make-up and VFX to make herself look younger on-screen.

Directed by Advait Chandan of Secret Superstar fame, and written by Atul Kulkarni, the film will release on Christmas 2020.
