My films are selling quite well: Rituparno Ghosh

Mumbai, Jan 6 (IANS) Kolkata-based director Rituparno Ghosh's movies 'are selling well' although a section of the Bengal media claims his 'prints lie unsold'.

A report published in Kolkata, which was later picked up by dailies in Mumbai, said many of Ghosh's films 'lie unsold and uncared for'. But the director is unperturbed.

'It all started with a report in Kolkata that was picked by the websites. Now we've Mumbai papers reporting how my completed films have no buyers. How thoughtful of them to show such concern. Thank you. But my films are being sold as and when they should be,' Ghosh lashed out.

Ghosh has just completed the first schedule of his new venture 'Sab Charitra Kalponik' (All Characters Imaginary) - Bipasha Basu's Bengali debut.

The young Bengali director, who blends 'art house and mainstream cinema', is credited with hits like 'Chokher Bali' (Bengali), 'Antar Mahal' (Bengali), 'Raincoat (Hindi) and the 2007 version of the old Bimal Roy classic 'Saheb Biwi aur Gulam'.

The director explained: 'You see the rules of film distribution are different in Bengal. They're made by producers and released without marketing procedures. I'm afraid these alarmist reports have no basis. Just because I'm unavailable for comments, they make up stories. Getting perturbed by such reports is demeaning myself.'

The director, who was supposed to begin shooting the next schedule of his movie with Bipasha Jan 10, has postponed it to Jan 28.

'Bipasha now wants to complete the film in one long schedule. The experience has been fruitful. I think Bipasha has discovered new facets to her acting talent,' Ghosh said.
