Music review Rock On!

Rock On the debut film as a singer and actor of Farhan Akhtar has music composed by the Ace Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and lyrics by the poetic magician Javed Akhtar.

The first soundtrack of the album is "Socha Hai", it begins with a distorted guitar wail, vibrant feel settingproviding with the rock feeling to the album. Javed Akhtar's lyrics are basically questions about the basic fact about life and mankind. Farhan Akhtar, a director-turned-actor-turned-singer has done quite a fine job behind the mike.

The next track is "Pichle Saat Dino Mein", here again you will get to hear electronic guitar. Farhan is been heard solo yet again in this soundrack, which is been repeated towards the end of the album as a LIVE performance. The live audience and their participation not only add more energy to the song but it also gives a rock feel.

The third track is "Rock On", which is the title song of the film, this song too begins with the electric guitar notes. The background will give you a sense of d'j' vu; it is the same music which ran behind Hrithik Roshan in Lakshya. This song doesn't have too much of zing as expected, lyrics are by Jaaved Akhtar. But still this is the best song in the album and it will also be quite popular.

The next song is "Yeh Tumhari Meri Baatein" is a "Hinglish" song. This song gives soft rock feel. The lyrics and tune are quite simple and there's nothing great about it. The song is a quite lazily written song but the composition is top mark, moody and sad but not overemotional. Dominique sings quite well and can sing a better song than this.

The fifth soundtrack is "Zehreelay" by Suraj Jaggan, like most of the songs again gives a feel that it is inspired by a western song. It's a fast rock song with heavy metal head-banging and excessive of electric guitar playing. A good song for the Hardcore Rock Lovers, who love hearing music in full volume. Again nothing new in this song and Suraj goes a little overboard and his singing lacks control.

The next song is "Tum Ho Toh", which is in the middle of the album after a heavy metal head-banging . Even though a slow, soft sad song, it has a rock feel in it. An average soundtrack, which has no great tune and lyric. Farhan is going not bad, he comes to mike along with Raman Mahadevan and together they try to make something unconventional.

The next song is "Sindbad The Sailor" which is again sung by Farhan and Raman Mahadevan. It has quite an unusual name on a rock track, but again nothing great about the song. It has the same old tune and can be composed by an good school band too. They have sung well together, particularly just before the chorus. And the lyric at last becomes genuinely fun.

The next song is "Pichle Saat Dino Mein - Live Version", which is a second last track of the album and is the live performance of the Pichle Saat Dino Mein song. The live version song is quite better than the original soundtrack. This song has been recorded in studio and live effects have been inserted to it. Though this song has nothing new to it, same old rock feel but overall it is good number.

The last and final soundtrack of the album is "Phir Dekhiye", which are the solitary warm strings of one acoustic guitar accompany Caralisa Monteiro. She is quite a talented singer and has made the song with quite sweet love and the words are also quite simple. The song is slow and also at some parts has high pitch too. Nothing new same old tune, heard before song.
