Movie Review: Straight - A little tedha-medha
'Straight', directed by Parvati Balagopalan, stars 'Bheja Fry' actor Vinay Pathak as 'Pinu Patel', a 30-something virgin confused about his sexual preferences.
Pinu, a based restaurant owner is not quite the lady's man. He stood up on his wedding day and he hasn't had much luck in arranged marriage either.
It's a matter of one kiss and the man is thrown into a pile of unanswered questions and confusions as he begins to wonder that he maybe gay after all. Patel owns the restaurant 'Gaylord' where he has got a new cook (Anuj Choudhary) whom he fantasizes about. But then there is his accountant 'Renu' whom he does not like flirting with the chef.
The sub-plot of the movie is interesting but gets lost during the course of the movie. Just like the protagonist's confusion, the director too seems to be confused about the movie.
'Straight' could have seen a brighter response if the loose ends were tied, and the story was a bit more focused. Vinay Pathak's performance is like a breeze of fresh air adequately supported by Gul Panag's spontaneity and new comer Anuj Choudhary's fair attempt.
Not a great movie but 'Straight' is not unwatchable either.
Either way, if you do decide to give it a try, "Straight' promises a fair share of hearty laughs and cute romance along with some decent music and reasonable performances by the star cast.
