Actor Mohit Malhotra, best known for his roles as Kartik Sharma in Bade Achhe Lagte Hain and Sid in Sasural Genda Phool, has built a strong presence across television and film. He made his film debut in Vikram Bhatt’s psychological thriller Hacked and has also appeared in several popular shows, including Bhagya Lakshmi, Naagin 5, Jamai Raja, Beintehaa, and Kya Huaa Tera Vaada. Alongside his acting career, Mohit has developed a deep passion for travel, which has gradually become an important part of his life.
The actor shared that his love for travel was not something he planned from the beginning. Instead, it developed naturally as he worked and shot at different locations. Over time, these experiences changed his perspective and helped him connect with himself more deeply.
He said, "Traveling isn’t just a passion for me… it’s how I reset my life. It wasn’t something I planned… it just happened over time. Work started taking me to different places, and somewhere along the way I realised I wasn’t just visiting locations… I was experiencing different versions of myself.I think that’s when it changed for me… from just travel to something more personal. If there’s one thing I’ve learnt, it’s this… travel doesn’t just show you the world… it quietly shows you who you are when nobody’s watching."
Travel as a Journey of Self-Discovery
Mohit also spoke about his evolving relationship with solo travel. While he does not consider himself a complete solo traveler yet, he has started appreciating the idea more with time. According to him, traveling alone brings a sense of clarity that is difficult to find otherwise.
He shared that being by himself during trips allows him to be more present and aware. It gives him space to think, observe, and feel things more deeply. Even during trips where he is not completely alone, he tries to take out moments for himself to experience that sense of solitude.
Talking about this, he said, "I wouldn’t call myself a complete solo traveler yet… I do enjoy good company… but I’ve started appreciating the idea of traveling alone a lot more now. It gives you a kind of clarity you don’t really get otherwise.
When you’re by yourself, you’re more present… you notice things, you think more, you feel more. And I’ve had moments like that on recent trips… even if it’s just stepping away for a bit and doing your own thing.
I think I’m slowly moving towards doing more solo trips… because there’s something very real about that experience.Solo travel humbles you a little… you realise your own company is either your biggest comfort… or something you need to work on."
Discovering Places Through Work
Mohit also reflected on how his acting career has allowed him to explore different places, many of which have left a lasting impact on him. He mentioned that some of the most memorable experiences came from locations he visited while shooting.
He recalled his time in Udaipur, where he was drawn to the calmness of the city, its lakes, and the overall peaceful atmosphere. He also spoke about Goa, a place many people think they know well, but which offers a very different experience when visited for work rather than leisure.
Another memorable experience for him was shooting near Cannes in the south of France. While the place is often associated with glamour, Mohit said that what stayed with him was the quiet and still moments, like early mornings and empty streets, away from the usual chaos.
Sharing these experiences, he said, "That’s honestly one of the best parts of this job. I remember shooting in Udaipur and being completely taken in by the vibe of the place… the lakes, the calmness, the way the city just slows you down.
And then somewhere like Goa, which people think they know… but when you’re there for work and not just a holiday, you discover a very different, quieter side of it.
I had a similar moment while shooting around Cannes in the south of France… it’s a place people associate with glamour and all the noise around it… but what stayed with me was the stillness in between. Early mornings, empty streets, just taking it in without the chaos… that side of it felt very real. What I’ve learnt is… the places you don’t plan for often leave the deepest mark… they don’t come with expectations, so they give you something real."
Through his journey, Mohit Malhotra continues to balance his work and personal growth, using travel as a way to reconnect with himself while exploring the world around him.
