mismatched netflix review

Mismatched on Netflix features an interesting cast of Prajakta Koli, Rohit Saraf, Rannvijay Singh, and Vidya Malavade in pivotal roles. It is the brainchild of Akarsh Khurana and is based on Sandhya Menon's best-selling book When Dimple Met Rishi. Mismatched is a 6 episode mini-series and narrates a college drama with everything that there can ever be, and yet, keeps you hooked until the very end.

Rohit as Rishi Shekhawat is your perfect guy next door and Prajakta as Dimple Ahuja, makes for an impressive debut as the geeky girl with dreams to run after. Both of them are poles apart in more ways than one, and yet, something just clicks when they come together. However, the makers did not seem to have a perfect ending for these two and so we see them take on a roller-coaster ride, one which has more lows than highs, but sure outshines at certain moments.

Rannvijay plays the professor and Vidya is the oldest student and a widower. With the story primarily revolving around these two, there are many other interesting characters that seem to draw our attention. Set in Jaipur and Ambala, we see a lot of traditional flavours here and there, but also a touch of modernity at various places. Rishi's best-friend Namrata, is a character that we all feel for by the end of the series, while Dimple's roommate Celina is someone we sympathize with, but also hate a little! (the reasons will be known over the due course of the series)

There are many interesting things that happen and all of them aren't anything out of the box, yet, they are the highs and make you want to see more of this series. We are left at a major cliffhanger hoping and wishing that things did not end so soon. The series is a light-hearted watch that leaves you smiling, angry too sometimes, and of course, a little sad by the end of it. Much like their journeys, the emotions that you feel also are nothing short of a roller-coaster ride, one that goes up and down, and right and left!

First things first, Prajakta is an absolute treat to watch and we just cannot get enough of it. While we totally understand that acting is much like an ingrained talent that she has, she adds a certain edge to the role of Dimple. Rohit as Rishi is all things charming and gentle-man, however, him being open to the idea of marriage at such a young age does seem a little off, but who are we to judge. Rohit makes you fall in love with Rishi, even feel bad for him at a point of time, but Dimple is not having a great day either. Rannvijay is yet another surprise element and his personality sure adds to the entire setting and premise of the show. Adding Vidya's Zeenat, and other characters like an NRI, a handicapped teenager, a social media influencer, among others, are all small things that make the show look natural instead of things looking forced.

All in all, this is a sweet series to watch out for, and well, if I were being honest, I do hate the makers for ending things at such a point and so soon. The series may have its loopholes but in the end, it was simply meant to make for a feel-good watch, and that, it does successfully!

Mismatched is something i was longing to see on Netflix India. It was so full of thriller and horror shows that at a time i felt its better to watch international shows of the respectable genre but now i feel Mismatched will open new space for this light hearted content shows without harming the thrill suspense space. I started with the first episode and it was simple and cool, the writer has something to tell and i am eager to listen to it.
