Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, released on June 15, 2001, made history when it became the highest-grossing film in India. Over the past 22 years, the film has achieved a cult following, with its music and dialogues becoming iconic in popular culture. As the team prepares for the sequel, Gadar 2, scheduled for release on August 11. Well, according to a report from Pinkvilla, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha will have a re-release on June 9, 2023, in theatres nationwide.

The report also stated that Gadar holds a special place in the hearts of Indian audiences and is cherished by Sunny Deol, Anil Sharma, and the stakeholders at Zee Studios. To honour the legacy of the first instalment and build anticipation for Gadar 2, the team has decided to re-release Gadar in theatres nationwide on June 9, coinciding with the original release week.

Contrary to the usual practice of re-releasing films primarily in multiplex chains, Gadar will also have a release in single-screen theatres. Recognizing that the essence of Gadar resonates with the masses, the stakeholders have planned a well-organized release across iconic single-screen theatres in India. More details regarding the release strategy, theatre listings, and other plans will be disclosed soon.

Gadar: Ek Prem Katha has undergone a technical enhancement, with the film being converted into the 4K format and the sound system being upgraded to match the standards of modern cinema. A dedicated team has worked on polishing the visuals and improving the film's excellent quality.

In addition to the re-release of Gadar, the team led by Anil Sharma is planning to unveil a teaser for Gadar 2 in June, leading up to the film's release on August 11. There is a possibility that the teaser might be attached to the prints of Gadar during its re-release, or a separate grand launch could be arranged on June 15, commemorating the 22nd anniversary of the cult blockbuster.
