The hard-hitting trailer of Mardaani 2 starring Rani Mukerji as a brave inspector fighting against a cruel serial killer who is raping and murdering young women, dropped a few days back.

The trailer shows a rapist and murderer in Kota who targets young girls, and it also mentions that the film is inspired by true events. Soon after, many residents of Kota have protested against the film stating that that the film, which is set in Kota, shows their city in a bad light.

The protesters say that the film forms a bad image of Kota, which is a coaching hub for engineering and medical entrance exams. They have demanded the makers to remove the name 'Kota' from their film.

Many social groups had also met Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, who is also an MP from Kota, to register their protest against the film. Om had expressed his concern and while addressing the media, he stated that “Maligning a city's name through cinema is not acceptable. The incident on which the film is based is also fictional. So for a fictional story taking the name of a city is not right.”

By the result of which, the makers of Mardaani 2 have decided to remove the reference of Kota from the film after locals allege it showed them in a bad light.

The director Gopi Puthran said that they realize that the trailer mentions it is inspired by true events and is based in Kota which could be open to miscommunication. Yash Raj Films has now decided to remove the true events claim from the film so that there is no further room for misinterpretation, reports Bollywood Hungama.

In an earlier interview with IANS, Gopi Puthran had said, "Rani as Shivani will be seen in a massive showdown with a 21-year-old villain who is an embodiment of pure evil. He is a dangerous criminal who targets women."

Mardaani 2 is set to hit screens on 13 December 2019.

People really need to get a life - if it is a fictional story - how does it matter if your city is being used as a backdrop or not
